A Simulation Game Analysis

Improved Essays
Growing up, I had always loved challenging myself by building and designing things. From childhood hobbies like drawing to learning how to sew pajamas to attempting to build the Eiffel Tower out of Popsicle sticks, I never failed to find new outlets for my creativity. In fact, the reason why I decided that I wanted to pursue engineering was because of a simulation game I liked to play whenever I had free time. In the game, I was able to design and build the most opulent and expensive houses that I could think of. Playing this game, I realized that I was passionate about having the ability to create beautiful and functional things from simple materials, and this is what inspired my interest in engineering.

I still remember when I was seven years old and how my grandpa would come visit my grandma once or twice a week. I would be so happy to see him because he would always call me over and sit me down next to him so that we could watch the history channel together. We would sit there for hours and watch documentaries on everything imaginable. One documentary that I will never forget is one that we watched that was talking about how the Romans built the Colosseum and their aqueducts. That was when I first realized that I liked designing and how I liked seeing how buildings were designed and built.…

Pre-Experience Journal Entry I was born to be an engineer. I grew up playing math games, building lego sets, and taking apart electronics. My Senior Capstone Experience (SCE) will definitely be in the area of engineering. More specifically, I would love to do either computer science or electrical engineering, as these are the areas I want to major in when I go to college. Guarded in phalanx formation with an aspis on my side, I bellowed. With my Corinthian-style helmet, spear on my side and my mighty wooden shield, I was a ferocious Spartan soldier. As you can see, the topic of world history intrigued me a lot. However, this enthusiasm of mine did not come from the indefinite timeline of history; it came from how people in the past were capable of making architecture that continues to leave the modern-day world astonished and inspired. This appreciation of history sparked a fire inside of me.…

Evaluation - Beneath The Surface My chosen theme for ‘Beneath The Surface’ revolved around Disney, in particular the movies and stories. The majority of Disney movies are based on other stories that are R rated and twisted. Personally I’ve been brought up with Disney movies my entire life so I felt comfortable choosing this topic since I was highly knowledgable of certain characters and their true back stories which they were based upon. For this project I really wanted to illustrate and present the True natures of each disney character and show how different they are from the child friendly characters we see today.…

In the Urban Game, I put many different buildings, trees, and things used for transportation in the town. The first thing I set in the town were houses so that factory workers, coal miners, and residents could have a place to live. I also put many trees in the city so the people could have air to breathe. Soon after, I added roads for transportation, as well as bridges to cross the River, and a canal to export goods and as another mode of transportation. Soon after these were added to the rural town, factories were added to mainly produce textiles using a water powered engine.…

After surveying all of the options for my education as a child, my parents chose to send me to a Montessori school in central Chicago. This decision would end up shaping the rest of my life, as it put me in an environment where I could explore my fascination with everything mechanical. This fascination came from an intrinsic desire that I have to understand how things work, so naturally I channeled that interest and the destructive tendencies of a young boy into taking everything apart that I could get my hands on. Once I was introduced to Lego bricks, my passion for everything mechanical only continued to grow. By the time I was around ten years old I was building everything from mechanized octopod walkers to construction equipment.…

I never intended to study architecture. When I was applying to colleges, I intended to study kinesiology and psychology. Studying dance and photography when I was younger gave me a desire to be expressive, and even though I felt a connection to the physicality of dance through kinesiology, I knew I wanted to do something that fulfilled that same sense of expression. It wasn’t until I studied architecture that I noticed some of its similarities with dance. Dance is expressive of the body, but it is also an observation of people’s interaction with each other and with their surroundings, a study of people’s movement through space.…
