As a nurse, my mother would frequently visit a local nursing home and work with the elderly in need, who were abandoned or neglected. I would go with her from time to time, bringing food and clothing. At first, I thought that nursing was just a simple job, but after seeing how my mother brought life and happiness into a place where people often felt lonely and disheartened. I knew it took diligence, compassion, and patience to be able to do the arduous labor that nurses today are known for. The road to achieving my goals thus far has not been easy. I have had the honor of working closely with some amazing nurses when I worked as a Certified Nursing Assistant and I saw some of the responsibilities that nurses have. The nurses I worked with performed many tasks like, physical exams, coordinating doctor’s appointments, administering and prescribing medication, and helping residents and families through end of life care. The nurses performed theses tasks under stressful situations, yet they were still compassionate, understanding and caring towards the resident and their families needs.…
