A significant event that changed my life forever was when I transferred from Hudsonville to Jenison Public schools. When I first got to Jenison I didn't know what to expect. I just prayed that it would be better than the last school I had been at. I wanted to change the fact that I had never had an easy time making friends or having a place I felt comfortable and fit into. So the year going into to 7th grade I decided to leave and start again with a clean slate. Throughout elementary school I had few people I called friends. I had always been a bit of an outcast, but it never bothered me until I looked back and …show more content…
At first I was in denial about leaving. I found myself more attached to the building and atmosphere than the people. As much as I wanted to stay in my own world the beginning of September rolled around and I found myself back to school shopping. The first mentions of the words ‘Taj Mahal’ caused images of pure white marble against clear blue skies to spring to my mind. The only thing that was life changing is that my dad changed jobs from working in Iowa city and being gone all the time, to switching jobs in Clarence so I’d see him more. When I was littler, me and my brothers would get up super early Christmas morning so that we could hopefully open all the presents that were underneath the tree. We would separate the presents and try to figure out what was inside each one, while we waited for our parents to get up.…

We all listened to the same bands, loved the same teen heartthrob, and all had a similar personality. It took losing a core group of friends of mine transitioning into freshman year to show me that it’s okay to be your own person. I will say freshman year was a huge struggle for me to go through without being friends with the people that I had grown closest to in the 8th grade and years prior to 9th grade, but in the long run it has benefitted me more than I could have ever imagined that year. I now am not afraid to be alone sometimes and not always hang out with a group of people or one person every weekend. I’m okay with spending time by myself just relaxing in my room or grabbing some lunch at bread co by myself when I can.…
