It was Thursday night and I was cold. I was walking down a dark alleyway following one of my friends to meet up with some our other friends and this was her shortcut. I constantly kept feeling the urge to turn away and run, but she held my hand so tightly I could not let go. Even though I did not mind, I was still shivering so much from the cold and cringing of the thought of getting caught. “Lee, I really don’t think that we should do this.” I erupted. “Why not? I thought you wanted to do something different tonight?” Lee responds. “Yeah, I know I said that earlier, but I don’t think this is how we should do it.” “Don’t freak out about it, we’ll be fine. The others will have our backs and besides no one will even notice that we’re there.” Her reassurance only helps me a little but I did …show more content…

Pondering on my conservation with her earlier that day, I did say that I wanted to have a good time. So figured that this was worth a shot thus, we kept on walking but when we went past this highly stacked collection of barrels by the side of the back door of the old corner store I hear a wine bottle rattle, then one by one each of the barrels fall down and begin to roll down in our direction. Before I know it we are both racing down the alley, hand-in-hand not sure of how to outrun these monstrous things. One of the barrels knocks Lee down, I turn around to help her but suddenly she gets buried the numerous amount of others and eventually she is consumed. I am in shock by how she quickly vanishes but before I can make any effort to cry for help I feel a cold

Bruises hurt. Growing up with the uncomfortable yellow-green of an old battle wound sustained from being an adventurous kid wasn't much of a surprise. The off-shade violet of a deep one, or the angry red of an underdeveloped one, on the other hand, is a more recent discovery. Receiving them daily has become a required hindrance when being chased by your neighbor's sex crazed Pit bull. I could have gotten a car to avoid him --my town is small and my mother never thought I needed one--…

The Shot I Didn’t Take “You can’t give up before even trying,” said my dad very often. My dad, Matt Matuska, is a firm believer on not giving up. My decision on not going out for basketball was somewhat hard on him because he really enjoyed watching me play. He also didn’t want to see me give up on something that I was “good at”. I didn’t think that I was good at basketball, and to be completely honest, I didn’t enjoy playing the game either.…

It was a month before tryouts, on a windy Sunday afternoon. I was in my neighbor's backyard, which has a basketball hoop. In 7th grade I didn’t have the best year for basketball even though I made A team. This year I had to make sure this was different. I was practicing as I had been for the previous couple weeks, working on my jump shot, my contested layups, and free throws.…

It was a bad hang gliding accident that landed me here. I was hang gliding side by side with my friend for her birthday. We rented hang gliders and brought them to the park by the beach. We had successfully got up in the air and were having an awesome time, flying with the birds in the air . The plan was to fly in the morning for about an hour, while the winds were strong, then we would play at the park and go in the water.…

At a younger age, I would say I believed that I can only trust myself and my mother, this is because as a little kid my mom would always tell me that there are bad people in the world and that giving them any information about anything can be very harmful. But as I grew up and realized what was actually happening in my country I knew there were millions of others that were suffering against the “bad people” and we could only do something about it if the whole community came together to help. It was at that time when I was about 25, when I started to put some effort into trying to establish more just conditions within my country especially after the implication of extremely high food prices. This is when I started my first strike involving my…
