Nevada goes by many names, you may know it best as the Silver State, but it is also nicknamed the Sagebrush State and the Battle Born State. The state flower of Nevada is the Big Sagebrush which grows in the desert and rangelands of Nevada. Native Americans used to use Sagebrush for weaving and medicinal purposes. Exploring the area, they soon found an old mine shaft where they noticed an ancient weathered chain embedded into the rock wall near the entrance. Entering the old mine, they came upon a pile of bones that appeared to be those of a large dog. As the sun was quickly setting, they determined to camp near the mine shaft. Sitting around a small campfire, they listened to what sounded like coyotes yipping in the distance. Not alarmed, they ate dinner around the fire until both men began to feel uneasy as the atmosphere changed, seeming thick and somehow charged. Before long, they heard the sounds of large dogs panting in close proximity, followed by low and hateful growls. With hair no doubt standing up upon the back of their necks, they then heard the sound of paws circling the campsite and scratching noises coming from the shaft where the chain was lying. Stealing a glimpse at the shaft, the chain began to move, seemingly being tugged away from the rock wall by an unknown force. As the pulling continued, harder each time, the brothers fumbled for their gear and stumbled to their feet. One of them pointed the flashlight toward the chain where scratch marks and blood stains could be seen on the rock. Suddenly, the chain dropped and one of the brothers felt something brush against his leg before both were frantically running towards their car. As they drove as fast as they could out of the canyon, they could hear wild panting and canine footsteps as a pack of invisible wild strays kept pace with them for several miles. Locals refer to these spectral hounds as The Hell Dogs of Eldorado

As a delegate of the Virginia Convention in April 1861, I would disagree that Virginia should secede from the Union. For Western Virginia, the Valley region, specifically Pendleton County, of the state, the war will mean my region and people will experience a battleground upon our soil. My sediments about the war are our first loyalties are to the consent of the governed, thus to the Constitution. My decision is to remain with the Union, because slavery directly conflicts with the ideal that all men are equal and to remain with the union better suits my people’s interests. I would disagree to secede because the Valley region largely comprises of small farmers who do not own slaves, therefore our interests do not always match with those of slaveholders.…

Mountainside Colorado is a fantastic place, but for a very long time was a place of social conflict. Alongside the mountains were streams that, at one point in time, were believed to offer gold and other precious metals. The sights are beautiful, and Colorado became sort of a golden opportunity for those looking to leave the coasts and start a new chapter. The border between the plains and the Mountains was a location that was destined to grow. For the early expeditioners and later the American’s, the Cheyenne and Arapahoe natives were not going to stop them from colonizing the Rocky Mountain State.…

When Daniel Elazar published his work on state political culture Nevada was an Individualistic state, and still is today. A state that is considered Individualistic has the following characteristics: government is viewed as an extension of the marketplace, government provides people with services they want, but do not interfere with the people’s private lives, politics are ran like a business, and the politicians are well-paid business men and women (Smith and Greenblatt 14). Nevada is an Individualistic state because officeholders run the government with marketplace tactics, achieving goals allows corruption to occur in many facets of the state, and its politics are left up to the professionals. A business-like culture is essential to be…

    1) Although the United States constitution and the Nevada constitution cover similar content, they do have a number of differences. The internal forces such as foundation of western gold mines, conflicts from Mexico and Mormons as well as the external forces like President Lincoln granting statehood in order to win his election. When they did grant statehood they restricted Nevada to no slavery, no disclaim of federal land or taxation of federal land. The other differences are that Nevada’s constitution is much longer because unlike the United States constitution which grants general powers, the Nevada constitution seeks to structure and limit power. In Nevada the house and senate are based on population.…
