After Southwest Assemblies scored three runs, two unearned, to knot the game at three in the top of the sixth, the Ladies struck back with two of their own for the final two-run margin. Junior Anna Dunn led off the bottom of the frame with a double and was sacrificed to third. Freshman Kristyn Peacock came to the plate as a pinch hitter. She ripped her first collegiate hit to the base of the wall in centerfield, driving in Dunn and going to second with a stand-up double. In the seventh with one out for the visitors, Kaitlyn Canales singled to left and advanced to second on a fielding error. After a strikeout, Ashlyn Stanfill singled down the right field line to score an unearned run.
In the eighth, a key error opened the floodgates to allow the Lions to score four runs. With the bases loaded and one out, a throwing error to home plate scored a pair of runs. However, no one was covering as Kristin Stringer swiped home to give Southwest Assemblies a 5-2 lead. A wild pitch on a strikeout allowed the sixth and final run of the game to score.
Sophomore Kelcie Bourgeois took the loss in relief for her first decision of the year, allowing one hit and one unearned run. Classmate Mackenzie Stewart threw the first 6.1 innings of the game, allowing five hits and two runs, one unearned. Rachel Ray (6-2) picked up the win for the Lions, allowing four hits and two runs while striking out nine in eight innings of work.
The Ladies return to action next weekend for a three-game series at Hendrix March 11-12. First pitch of the doubleheader on the 11th is set for 2
