After the game, Mr. White’s friend, Sergeant-Major Morris arrives, they welcome him over with a whisky. As the night passes by, Morris tell stories about his exploits abroad. As Morris tells his stories, Mr. White express his interest and returned to the subject of the monkey’s paw which Morris mentioned earlier. Moreover Morris tries not to deal about the subject which only rises the family’s curiosity. At Mr. and Mrs. White’s urging, Sergeant – Major Morris eventually takes a small, mummified paw out of his pocket. He explains that the paw has been cursed by a fakir and can grant three wishes. Several days passed after the burial of Herbert, the Whites feel exhausted and hopeless. One stormy night, Mr. White wake up and saw his wife crying, thus he comforted her. Filled with hopelessness, Mrs. White suddenly cries out that she wants the monkey’s paw and told him to wish Herbert back to life, but he resisted and explained that Herbert’s death has no connection with the wish that he made on the paw, but Mrs. White stubbornly insisted to wish Herbert back to life. Because of her wife urging he retrieves the paw and Mrs. White ordered him to wish Herbert come back to life. Thus Mr. White made his second wish, then they heard the clock, the creak of a stair and the sound of a mouse.
