Katherine had played their game for almost a week she had been through this before. “Do you hear voices?”

“No” she said looking down to the floor speaking low and angrily. Katherine thought to herself What I hear is no one's business. I am not going to be fooled into confessing anything. I know what they are looking for and I know what to say to make them leave me alone.

“How are you feeling?”

“Fine”, she replied trying to give nothing away. Let them see that they had no right to bring me here. I’ve had done nothing wrong. This time I did not even hit Melanie, so there was nothing out of hand. The voices she heard never told her what to do, they just called her name quietly enough to make her know they were there, but never in charge.

They do not make me feel better. I know what I need better than he.

She fumed as she thought about the unfairness of those pills, not the pills she liked to take. Dr. McKinney had made it clear to her,the staff, and to her family that she gets none of those that she had become so dependent on to make her feel happy and alive. He had taken great pains to make her hear him when he told her “We are only going to allow you to use the drugs that we provide. No more self medicating at home.” He told her family “Drugs that could actually help her, not just make things worse.” She heard every word and she was furious.

Didn’t they realize that this medicine they keep giving me is causing me to stress out. I only want to be calm. I want to be calm…calm. The stupid medicine is making it harder to play their game. On occasion, she had made admissions that she really had not meant to say. She told the voice inside her head, “This was getting dangerous for me.”

Once Dr. McKinney left the room, she laid on the bed waiting for the lunch hour. She laid on the bed and seethed. Listening to the voices as they became more and more clear, more demanding. Waiting for lunch she chanted over and over, “I’ll fix this. I’ll fix it

In Carly’s Voice, you can find quite a few examples of the authors discussing different medications that have worked, some that worked but caused horrible side effects, or some that didn’t work at all. For example, on pages 138-140 it discusses the countless amount of doctors and medications that Carly took and visited for her violent “fits.” In the midst of the family’s frustrations, doctors prescribed Carly medications that were doing more harm than good. Dr. Stein, a physician who would look after Carly prescribed her “gabapentin.” Prior to her new medication schedule, Carly started experiencing abnormal side effects such as stomach aches, getting up in the middle of the night and staying up all night, waking up & spinning in circles while…

The movie I watched for my film assignment is called “Call Me Crazy”. It was like five movies in one, it showcased multiple characters in with different story lines that suffered or dealt with someone with a mental illness. I chose this movie is because it did something different from other movies, “Call Me Crazy” gave the characters family a voice. Mental illnesses does not affect just the people diagnosed, but also the people around them. There were six characters in the movie four of them suffered from Schizophrenia, Severe Depression, PTSD, and Bipolar Disorder.…

Personal Narrative Assessment Notes The narrative “Out in the Open” would benefit from stronger, more concise language. It's vital to be careful with modifying words. Weak modifiers such as, basically, sort of, and mostly, detract from the strength of all genres of writing. Repetition reviled itself multiple times towards the end of the narrative. The adjective “happy” was overused (three times in 50 words).…

Far too often we have clients come in and say that prescriptions that were prescribed to them did nothing to ease their pain or their feelings. Sadly, when something works for most people, it can sometimes become the normal prescription for everyone who has the same symptoms. A bright crescent hung low behind the London bridge. Sitting on the stone edges was a lone animal, its inky black fur sleek, shining. Its tail swished and curled behind it like an aphoristic shadow, the cat’s shimmering gold eyes scanning across the horizon. A tall man appeared beside the creature in a plume of red flames and putrid smoke.…

“A handful of moments I wished I could change, but I was carried away,” are the lyrics that remind a lot about myself. Growing up, and even about two years ago, I was insanely shy and did not talk much around people, friends, or family. The way I talked to people was in a timid, soft spoken way, which looking back, was awfully embarrassing. My friends and family would laugh at me because I could not talk well, and when I did talk, they acted as if I were a baby who just said its first words. With all of that nonsense going on, their idiotic response kind of made me not want to say anything anymore.…
