The Bible: What Do You Believe?

What do You Believe? Take a look at the people around you. People you see every day: the mailman, a banker, a fireman, and a stay-at-home mom – what do they all have in common? Take a closer look. Maybe the mailman has a broken down vehicle; the banker is running late to an important meeting, the mother’s child is extremely sick. All of these people are currently experiencing what are commonly called ‘bad days’, and they will no doubt experience them again; yet, they still carry on with their lives. What is keeping him or her from quitting right this very second; claiming that life has no meaning or value and just is not worth the struggle? The answer to this question lies hidden in the hearts of everyone and as a result, each person answers …show more content…
Contained in this book is the acknowledgement of a less than perfect life, as well as soothing messages for troubling times and promises of hope for the future. This book’s existence may seem too good to be true; therefore, each person must examine its reliability himself. A person should start with the basics: where the Bible originally came from. A study of the history of the Bible will reveal that it is composed of 66 books, written over a period of 1,600 years by about 40 different authors. The diligent reader will notice that despite large amounts of time passing and many different authors, the Bible offers no inconsistencies. The only possible explanation for this is that someone who knew everything that had happened, was happening, and would happen in the future was guiding the pens of its authors. Timothy states this plainly when he writes, “All scripture is inspired by God…” (2 Timothy 3.16). Because God cannot lie, this …show more content…
Consider this: two men are discussing “right” versus “wrong”. The discussion heats up to the point where, in anger, one man exclaims that just because the other man believes something is right does not make it right for everyone. In light of this, today’s world seems chaotic: it is acceptable for a person to believe whatever they want; in fact, it is even acceptable for one thing to be true to one person, and untrue to the next! The question becomes this: in a world of relative truth, could such a thing as absolute truth exist? Yet again, John gave the answer when he penned the words, “Your Word is truth” (John 17.17). This one simple sentence holds all the reassurance that man needs in order to accept the concept of absolute truth. God’s Word is the source of absolute or universal truth, and He has quite conveniently arranged for it to be written down all in one place: the

    Symbolism In Revelation

Revelation, an apocalypse, is one of the most misunderstood books of the Bible. In this book, John describes heavenly wisdom he received from an angel. Readers often have a difficult time understanding this book because John depicts the supernatural world through many strange events and symbols, and scholars debate the legitimacy and context of John’s vision. Upon further reading of the text, it appears that stories in Revelation should be taken literally and that the events are predicting the future but also occasionally referencing John’s present age.…

After reading through and examining Kings 22 and Isaiah 6, I was completely shocked from reading the Bible for the first time. I was so shocked because it was the first time in my life that God was presented to me as a being that lies. What this lead me to think about was whether or not God actually lied or if the prophets were “making things up” or “telling the king what he wants to hear”. In order to determine what actually happened a closer look must be given to the text. A closer look must first be given to 1 Kings 22 because this is where the lie/epistemological problem becomes very evident.…

No one comes to the Father except through me. In the end of the day I don’t think that there is such thing as an absolute truth claim but rather relative truths. Absolute truths are things that everyone agrees on for example in the Christian faith some Absolute truths are that Jesus was raised Jewish in Nazareth and that he was Baptized by John. In the world the relative truths are things that I feel…

Section One This writer believes that the Bible is the Word of God, it is divine authority, it is infallible, (John 10:35) and is absolute sufficiency (Galatians 1:8-9) This writer also believes in its unlimited inerrancy and that “it is God breath” (2 Timothy 3:16), and that this prophecy of Ezekiel 40-48 should be understood literally if one is to get the correct understanding, after all, it is a very precise prophecy of a very real future physical temple. Supporting specifics in the Ezekiel passage Firstly, Ezekiel 40-48 temple prophecy is very detailed and well-articulated and it’s an actual future tangible temple that is just as literal as that of Solomon’s Temple (1 Chronicles 22:14-15), “ that was filled with the glory of the Lord”…

The book of Hebrews is a letter written by an anonymous author offering guidance in God’s ways. Similar to the letter’s of Paul, such as that to the Galatians where he offered explanation to God’s ways, therefore delineating their flaws, this letter serves to delineate not only guidance but also to point out flaws and the results of inequity. As distinction can be made between these to letters as the letter to the Galatians is directed to group of people residing in one same city; in the contrary, the book of Hebrews can be argued to be directed to Christians irrespective of their location. Moreover the book allows the readers to further understand the main distinctions and concerns between both the Old and the New Testament’s. It is a stepping-stone to gain necessary information that helps validate the New Testament; of course to those that chose to acknowledge and practice it.…

Ever since my early to mid-teenage years, I dreamt of publishing a book. After two failed attempts, the Holy Spirit gradually placed various promises of God on my heart. In today’s society, several misconceptions about God and his promises exist.…

While yet I have no concise way of knowing which depiction is actually true it does provide some form of explanation for why god appears to be a dynamic character. However this small form of closure on that issue prompts another potentially even more important question for me. If a portrayal of god is wrong must that not mean that whoever took part in the writing of that book of the bible did not know everything he was writing about? This issue could potentially lead to not only the depiction of god being wrong but also whatever it was the writer was uncertain about. So if this is the case as I believe it is then how am i supposed to understand the bible as the “word of god” as I have heard it said before?…
