“Aahhhh”, a scream came from the upstairs. I quickly ran up the stairs. I heard two more on my way up. I swung the attic door wide open to see Dana stabbing Mas Ruf. In amazement, not knowing what to do or what was going on, watching her stab Rufus two more times I said, “Dana! What are you doing?” She started to scream, and then she vanished, everything but one of her arms which Mas Ruf was laying on.

When she vanished, I went over to check the bloody body of Mas Ruf. He was still breathing I got his attention and asked him, “Mas Ruf what just happened?”. He looked up at me wincing blood dripping from his mouth; he was bleeding out. He managed to mutter, “They were so much alike, I was just…..”, and he was gone. “Mas Ruf! Mas Ruf!” I cried

“Leave, leave where?” The kid simply didn’t understand that he wasn’t free. He didn’t understand that he was one of us now. Now that his father was dead and had died before he could finish writing his and his sister’s free papers. He laid on my arm and began to cry some more. Then he suddenly looked up and asked, “What about Grandma and Uncle Jake?”
Uncle Jake, the way he said it made my stomach turn, he referred to him as uncle Jake because he simply didn’t know why he was living in the house. “We have to go away for a while, but they’ll be right here when we get back.” A little lie because god knows what grandma and Uncle Jake would do to us once they found out Rufus wasn’t coming back around. “Are you okay now?” I asked. “Yeah I guess so.” He replied, wiping the tears off of his wet face. “Alright I have to do something. Just stay with Carrie, Sarah, and my boys and do exactly what they tell you to, okay?” “Okay I will,” He said.
