This wasn't very taboo to the people around him, but Wootton thought this was worthy of chastisement. The blood dripping from Chandler’s mouth was opaque. In August 1999 I had the privilege of meeting Arthur Ray Hawkins, known to many as “Coach Hawk”. Being a typical teenager, I didn’t always heed to the words of wisdom that he tried to instill into me daily. Not understanding his passion for God and people, I would often get mad when he challenged me to better. Why, because I wanted to settle for being good, yet he impelled me to be great. Not only on the football field in between the white lines, but in my daily walk in this thing that we call life.…

Human and their psyche have an undeniable need to organize, rationalize, and order the seemingly random and illogical quirks of life. Consequently, this habit and instinct often drives humans to try to analyze themselves in such a way, with rationality. However, this logical method is dysfunctional as humanity and its abstractions such as love, hate, and indifference cannot be sufficiently explained as these abstractions often clash with each other to form the essence of humanity and its unmistakable identity. Martin reveals his struggle in the story when he first discovers his wife’s “condition” of alcoholism.…

A Reflection: The Danger of a Single Story As most people, my story consists of an abundance of struggle, trial and error, and also lessons. These challenges, in addition to the lessons, have brought upon stress, anxiety, and even depression into my life. They have made me question myself to the point of insanity, avoid meeting and accepting new people into my life, and even fail to uphold the bonds I had previously made with both relatives and peers. However, I cannot be defined and bound to the “single story” of my anxiety. There are many more complex stories that represent me even more adequately than the ones that correspond to the struggles I’ve faced; as there are many more stories significant to other various people, places and things…

Writer's History It wasn't until the beginning of sophomore year that I had begun to think seriously about writing. My teacher at the time was a spirited old man, with an excellent taste in literature. He was one of my greatest inspirations, as he had helped guide me in the right direction (when it came to English anyways). I remember very distinctly that we were given an assignment that essentially called for an ABAB formatted poem, and with that we had to write about something that captivated us most, I wrote about the moon of course.…

I think what Sean was trying to give off in the scene I chose is that you have never fully lived until you are able to feel all of the feelings that we as humans are supposed to feel. In the movie, Sean showed that he is vulnerable yet masculine at the same time by the definitions of society. Sean stated that he would kill will if he ever disrespected his deceased wife again. That is the stereotypical masculinity. But further in the movie, He opens up to how he has loved, lost, hurt and just so many other emotions.…
