From personal experience it is not something that I would want anyone to go through. Chemo not only kills off cancer cells but also kills off normal cells as well. Because cancer cells replicate quickly chemotherapy kills all cells that replicate quick such as finger nails and hair, Marc Stewart states that, “Although these drugs often affect rapidly dividing cancer cells, most are relatively nonspecific and therefore may cause harm to normal body tissues” (69). Stewart is explaining that the drugs being used to slow down or stop the rapidly growing cancer cells also slows down or stops the normal cells and will possibly cause harm to the tissues. New treatment methods are being researched today, the time and funding being put into these projects are worth the advancements that are soon to come in the near future. Anytime of cancer treatment is complex and is always changing. Efforts to integrate treatment methods of any cancer is key to success in outcomes of survival and the quality of life. Clinical trials are being performed everyday to manipulate, and eventually all together kill off all cancer cells for future progress in these …show more content…
Ways such as less scans and and cheaper medicines are being researched today. Reducing the amount of scans not only saves your body from being exposed to a lot of radiation but it also allows the patient to save money an average CT scan cost around five hundred dollars per scan. Oncologists around the world are figuring out ways to change check up appointments. Doctor Jasmine Jensen a pediatric on oncologists at Kapiolani has been doing research with some of her colleagues on check up/follow up appointments. Follow up appointments are very essential with the development of second cancers. Dr. Jenson states, “we have been researching the method of scans at check ups and are trying to reduces the amount of scans needed, the oncology team and I have figured out that it 's much more effective to talk to the patient and look for symptoms to diagnose a recurrence” (Jenson). By looking for the reoccurrence of symptoms, patients can tell the doctors if something is wrong and if they do not feel well. Doctors also save time and money, they do not have to take time to run scans on the patient 's. They simply just ask the
