Giver: A Sci-Fi Dystopian Book By Lois Lowry

The giver is a sci-fi dystopian book by lois Lowry. It is a book where Jonas, the main character, and other people in his community and the communities around him live in a constant state of no feeling. The don’t remember the feelings of the past. Only one person in the community and the communities around them can feel. That is the Receiver. The receiver’s job is to hold the memories and feelings of the past so the other people of the community can’t feel the hurt and pain they should experience. The Receiver counsels the members of the counsel when they occasionally need guidance like the time when a plane flew over the community. Jonas is finally called up to the stage and everyone in the crowd is wondering what is going on. The head elder describes how Jonas is going to be the new receiver and will need to be strong. The first day of training comes and he bikes off to the old Receiver’s house. He comes inside and the Receiver tell’s Jonas to call him the Giver. The first thing the giver shows him is a ride on a sled. Jonas is confused then because the chief elder said there would be great pain involved. The Giver then shows Jonas the experience of a sunburn. Over the sessions together with the Giver, Jonas experiences harsh things such as war and great pain. Jonas’s family takes on a new kid even though his family already has two kids. It is illegal to have more but since Jonas’s father is a nurser, he took on a new project and took a baby home. Then in the next few weeks there are twins born Jonas’s Dad has to perform a Release on one of the twins. When he gets home Jonas asks him what happens during a release. His dad tells him someone from elsewhere comes and pick up the baby and brings it out of the community to
