“A Rose for Emily” by William Faulkner was one of the short stories that he wrote. A Rose for Emily is a mysterious story. The story starts off at her funeral. Where the whole town came to her funeral to show their respect then leads in to her when she was a live. (Norton book- pg. 998, par. 1-3) The story talk about how she is a tradition, a duty and a care but she more as a southern bell. It talk about how her father was strict when it comes to guys. How she is terrible at letting men go that she care about. When her father passed away, she didn’t want to let go his body until the townspeople talk her in to giving his body up. (Norton book- pg. 1000, par. 3-4) The story A Rose for Emily is more as a Southern gothic and grotesque but there are three factors that shape Emily Grierson’s personality. She was psychology, stubborn, and fierce. [RI1] The townspeople the ones that actually telling the story. They the one that tell us about Emily’s personality. The townspeople know Emily because Emily live their town her whole life. Emily’s social life have not changed much. She had her servant do everything for her. She did give china-painting lessons for eight or ten years before. After her father died she didn’t talk to anyone much until meet Homer Barron. Homer Barron had left her. He passed away on July 6, 1962. Faulkner was born in New Albany, Mississippi. He went to school at University of Mississippi. Faulkner was an American novelist. He wrote novels, short stories, a play, poetry, essays and screenplays. He became famous from his novels. The novels he wrote were The Sound and the Fury, As I Lay Dying and Absalom, Absalom! The novel Sanctuary was turned into two films, 1933's and The Story of Temple Drake as well as a later 1961. Faulkner was awarded the Nobel Prize in Literature in 1949. He won two Pulitzer and two National Book Awards.
