The word “desolation” can be defined as a state of complete emptiness or destruction. Typically, the warfare of desolation takes place when a person’s emotions have been destroyed. The theme of the short story A Rose for Emily is destruction. Destruction is the best word to describe the life of Emily Grierson. Generally, destruction occurs when the problems of life attack us and instead of retaliating we are destroyed. We as humans, however, are more sensitive, which means we are quick to change and detect slight changes and influences.
