A Rose For Emily Character Analysis Essay

In the short story “ A Rose for Emily “ William Faulkner presents us with a very intriguing story that starts with the death of Miss Emily. The whole setup of the story is very intriguing and this is shown through Miss Emily’s character and the way she acts and what she does making her a round character . The way she is developed leaves the reader hanging on what her next step is, since little is known behind her reasons for her actions and it is left to the reader to interpret her actions. To begin with, she is a very reserved woman who has stayed inside her house for multiple years. To the people in the story and the reader, who know little of her she is a very intriguing person that holds many things to herself. This can be taken also to represent her funeral. On the other hand the connotational meaning may be that it may not actually be a rose that was given to her but respect for the way she was able to maintain herself even when things were going wrong. An example would be when she had to face her father’s death or her sweetheart not being the one that was best for her. Also, the author uses imagery,point of view and figurative language to add meaning to his work. He uses first point of view which only lets the reader know what the town knows and not actually the thoughts of Miss Emily or her reason for doing the things she did. It leaves Miss Emily’s character a mystery and it is for the reader to draw inferences on why Miss Emily acted the way she did and what were her reasons behind the death of Humor. In the last paragraph it states how there was a gray hair in the pillow next to the dead body which makes the reader wonder how it got there or if Miss Emily had been laying beside him these past years. The author also uses imagery to describe Miss Emily through the course of the years as her figure changed.This added great importance because it could be understood to have a higher
