As you read through many novels you can see the characteristics of the main character of each passage, since both characters’ act like they are young. In “A Rose for Emily” by William Faulkner the main character is Miss Emily Grierson and Miss Brill, which is the protagonist, from the novel “Miss Brill” by Katherine Mansfield we can see that both main characters’ act immature. In the short story “A Rose for Emily,” Miss Emily is the main character. While she was growing up her father kept her away from men who she might have a future with. After her father passed away she kept his corpse for a couple of days. Later through the novel Miss Emily met her lover, which she later murdered. She lived with his remains till her time came. However, in the novel “Miss Brill,” Miss Brill is the protagonist in the story. In the novel, the narrative states that on any Sunday afternoon/evening, she spends walking around exploring and sitting in the park. In the beginning of the short story Miss Brill was making her decision whether to wear her fur or not. She notices that there are more people in the park than there were the previous Sunday. Miss Brill observes the world around her. Miss Brill sees the world around her as a play. As though her surroundings were the background of the play, and the people who were at the park were actors. However, in comparison we can observe that Miss Brill is more of a positive character than Miss Emily. These differences are remarkable and to notice…
