Pocahontas was a very, well known Indian woman who helped in countless aspects. Her birth name was Matoaka, but she was also called Amonute, and later known as Rebecca Rolfe throughout her life. Everybody gave her the nickname or Indian name of Pocahontas, and she has stuck with that name forever. The name Pocahontas was only used in casual or family ways throughout her childhood. This name was only a nickname, which in Algonquinroughly translated to “little woman”. This meant a playful, merry little girl in other words. Pocahontas was born in 1595, in the small city of Werowocomoco, Virginia. Her father was Chief Powhatan, who had a numberless amount of wives. His informal name was Wahunsunacock. At twelve years old, she began noticing that the relationship between the colony and Powhatan, her chief father, began to improve. After Pocahontas realized this; she proceeded and continued to visit Jamestown. Her contributions that she had in the colony led her to the one and only Captain John Smith. Nobody is really sure about the exact nature of Pocahontas and John Smith’s relationship due to her lack of voice; she did not speak much. Some believed that they had a romanticized relationship, while others did not truly believe that. Although, Pocahontas did show some true feelings for John Smith through her courageous acts that she did for him, nobody was really sure of what was occurring during that time in between them two. There is a movie, in which they have a romanticized story about them. It is fictionalized retellings of the two characters: Pocahontas and John Smith. In 1607, when Pocahontas was about twelve years old, her father Powhatan was the leader of the confederacy and English colonists began settling in Virginia and building there new homes there. John Smith was a leading colonist, and he was immediately captured by Powhatan’s hunters when they found out about his arrival to the
