Martin Luther King’s “I Have a Dream” speech was given during the Civil Rights movement in the 1960’s. The speech has a very simple context, and Martin Luther King wrote it with the purpose to inspire change within black and white citizens of the United States, so that civil rights for all Americans could be equal. The proposition is that people from both races will accept change in a non-violent way.
