Forum on June 24, 2016 to mixed reviews. The controversy stemmed from not knowing if the people portrayed were real or wax figures. There were also questions of whether or not he received permission to use their likeness. The purpose of this video is to show controversial famous people in bed together as art in hopes of calling attention to them not being treated like real people. Kanye West uses wax-figures of controversial celebrities and several film techniques to support this claim. The message of the video is for the greater good of society by bringing …show more content…
Kanye shows he is taking a stand for these celebrities by showing them naked to portray vulnerability not sex. The video includes former president George Bush who receives a lot of flak from the media and who Kanye has publicly bashed. Anna Wintour, the editor-in-chief of Vogue Magazine who received criticism for putting Kanye and his reality-star wife Kim Kardashian on the cover. Current presidential nominee, Donald Trump who is criticized for many of his political views. Rihanna, who sings the hook of the song and was in a domestic dispute with another person in the bed. Chris Brown, a performer who has been a constant media target ever since the incident with Rihanna in 2009. Taylor Swift who is a pop artist who has had an on-and-off again feud with Kanye West for the last seven years. The rapper himself and his reality star wife, Kim Kardashian, who is arguably the most famous person in the world. Kanye’s wife’s ex-boyfriend, Ray J, who she has a sex tape with. Kanye’s ex-girlfriend, Amber Rose who is always in the media over her controversial views about gender equality and slut shaming. Caitlyn Jenner, a newly transgender Olympian who is Kanye’s wife’s step-dad, and Bill Cosby a legendary actor who Kanye proclaimed is innocent after being accused of forty-six counts of rape. These people were chosen not only because of their association to Kanye, but …show more content…
The low-quality, night-vision camera slowly scanning over the celebrities as they sleep is to represent the watchful and judging eye of the media and public. The camera continues to zoom in on things like Rihanna’s nipple piercings and tattoo, Ray J’s identifying ear piercings, and Caitlyn Jenner’s new breasts. This makes the viewers feel weird about how invested they are in these people. Even the celebrities sleeping would create a story for the entertainment news today, which explores the lack of paparazzi laws that many celebrities have complained about publicly. Kanye is bringing awareness to these important issues by shooting the video as if it is someone sneaking and filming these people sleeping

In the song “Upside Down” by Jack Johnson, the author, who is also the artist and performer, expresses the feeling that turning over a new leaf or taking a new angle is a good way forward when you feel trapped or overwhelmed in your present situation. Throughout the song, the author conveys to the audience that when things are changing, sometimes memories of how life was before the change, fade, in lieu of new memories and experiences to come using the lines, “I can feel in change in everything/ And as the surface breaks reflections fade”.
