A Rhetorical Analysis Of Jimmy V's Speech

The Jimmy V speech at the 19.. Espy awards is one of the most rhetorical appeal driven speech I have ever heard. As jimmy V walked off the stage after his twelve minuet speech he concluded by saying, “Cancer can take away all my physical abilities. It cannot touch my mind, it cannot touch my heart and it cannot touch my soul. And those three things are going to carry on forever.” Jimmy V argues that if you think, love, and laugh we will live full happy days. He targets the audience by using pathos ethos and logos to show what he has been through, how to overcome the mental aspect of pain and to donate to his new cancer research foundation, The Jimmy V foundation. During jimmy V’s speech he uses deductive reasoning. Jimmy V starts out his speech with an attempt at a joke but it is unsuccessful and leads to an awkward silence. He then goes into his famous speech. He begins by talking about his easily college coaching days at Rutgers. Then goes on to talk about his friend coach k and how much he has done for him over the years and especially in the last few months. Jimmy V uses deductive reasoning to tell the story of his life and how he got to where he is and then narrow it down to what he truly wanted to talk about. There is logic hidden in here it may not be common logic but to him and to all those who know him it is in fact logical.
