Music has become “man's red flower” of modern times. Apple products have taken the technological world by storm and have begun to revolutionize the musical world within the past decade. On May 28, 2014, Apple announced the purchase of Beats electronics and Beats Music for 3 billion U.S. dollars. In acquiring the famous music business, Apple began to promote their new addition with inspirational commercials. The 2015 Apple Music ad opens up with a radio host announcing Pharrell Williams’ new single, “Freedom.” Throughout the commercial, the song is continually playing, but depicts how various people interpret the meaning of the music. The red-haired boys’ interpretation of freedom is escaping the reality of life and seeking release from the immaturity of his classmates’ wild youth. Viewers could see the red-haired boy and relate to him through being bullied in school or treated as a social outcast. The young woman crying in a dim room could be in an abusive relationship and escapes the pain through music; she could also be in the stages of a recent breakup and has gained new “freedom” of the single life, despite her shattered soul. Again, viewers can put themselves in the position of the woman in feeling the pain of loss or abuse. These are examples of creative marketing because the situation is vaguely represented; one can decide the meaning behind the scenes, which is a success on the author's part. Pathos is also exemplified through the scenes of dancing and partying because one can feel the longing for freedom and envy the life of the people in the commercial. The …show more content…
Every depicted person is of a different race, lives in a different part of the world, or is of a different religion. This can be viewed that the music is “free” to anyone who wants it, though Apple Music requires a $10 monthly subscription in order to have access to their product. Another way to decipher the commercial is that Apple Music represents how all people can relate and unite through music. In “Freedom,” Pharrell Williams states how all living things, both earthly and otherworldly, are made of the same things. Apple Music takes the lyrics of the song “Freedom” and places them within the people's lives to show that humanity can unite through
