Gray skies drape over the horizon releasing a steady, yet light stream of rain over the mournful head of HOWARD WADE. He places a hand braided bracelet on the headstone of a person that reads:
‘Rebecca Wade, Beloved Wife. 1888 - 1909’
Howard only lets one tear fall down his cheek, when suddenly he hears a voice over his shoulder.
TRAVELER
They say he works in mysterious ways, brother.
HOWARD
There’s no mystery to tuberculosis. You get, you die.
Howard composes himself as he stands.
HOWARD
And I’m not your brother.
Howard tries to get around the traveler but the man holds his hands up.

Mallon throws up his hands cowardly in defense.
MALLON
I meant no offense. Howard! I mean to help!
HOWARD
How can you help me? My wife has died!
Howard grabs Mallon’s collar and rises his fist in blinding fury.
MALLON
You can have her back! You can get her back!
Howard stops as he hears the words of Mallon.
MALLON
There is a way.
Howard freezes his actions but doesn’t release Mallon, the two men stand in the rain over Rebecca’s grave.
CUT TO:
INT. OFFICE - DAY
They sit in an unsuspecting managing office of a multi-floor tenement building, blank faced as the light patter of rain continues outside.
An older, bald man wearing a tweed jacket sits across from Howard and his new friend Mallon.
HIGH PRIEST
Has my associate informed you to the rite?
HOWARD
(skeptically)
This is a religion now, is it?
HIGH PRIEST
We are an organization, with otherworldly beliefs. We do not govern our members, but we do guide them.
HOWARD
Towards?
HIGH PRIEST
Excuse me?
HOWARD
What is it you guide them toward?
The High Priest takes a deep
