The last semester of her nursing schooling had arrived and Margo could not be more ready to spread her wings and begin her career as an Advance Practice Registered Nurse, APRN. But first, she had to finish eight weeks of her last practicum, an internship at a small family practice clinic in a suburb of Madison, Wisconsin. Margo had done most of her schooling on the East coast: a bachelor’s degree in nursing, BSN, at the University of New Hampshire in Durham, NH and now her graduate degree at Yale School of Nursing in New Haven, CT. This change in scenery for her practicum, from East coast to Midwest living, was actually a return to her hometown of Middleton, WI. Thank you for gathering today. Before we begin, I just want to personally thank each and every one of you for being willing and open to taking this journey together with me. You must think of me as the tag-along daughter who always popped into the clinic anticipating that lollipop or toy from the kiddie treasure chest. My role now is certainly much more than that and although I am nervous, I am also eagerly anticipating lending my knowledge to the best family practice clinic I know. I hope I’m speaking for all of us when I say we want this practice to have continued success and carry Dad’s vision forward. We all hold a key to ensure this will happen. Your key is the knowledge and skills you’ve learned while contributing to Dad’s vision over the years and my key is adding EHR experience to that mix. It will take all of us time to learn together, but once we are proficient in this area, we will all be able to see the added benefits. So, please know that I am learning alongside you and welcome your input, both positive and negative, every step of the way. Change is challenging at best and by putting one foot in front of the other we will move forward together for the benefit of all those patients we serve.
