This paper will discuss the results of a nursing informatics survey sent to ten participants working for a large corporation. This survey discusses the role of nursing informatics. Nursing informatics is defined as “the use of information and computer technology to support all aspects of nursing practice, including direct delivery of care, administration, education and research. (Hebda & Czar,2013). There are many definitions of the discipline of nursing informatics. Nursing informatics facilitates the integration of data, information, knowledge and wisdom to support patients, nurses, and other providers in their decision making in all roles and settings. Participants were asked about the role of technology in nursing informatics (see Appendix A). Nursing informatics technology was viewed as voice recognition (10%), predictive modeling (50%), personalized healthcare (30%), medical device integration (10%). Barriers to technology (see Appendix B) were described as lack of management support (30%), lack of effective project management (30%), lack of common standards (20%) and lack of commitment from clinicians (20%). What is the impact of informatics nurses involved with clinical systems? There are many implication to nurse’s informatics since it can be a behavioral and structural change. Many nurses are resilient to change and that is one of the barriers to adopting to technology. The benefits to technology will allow the nurse more direct care for patient then the time needed for documentation as it enhances safety and the quality to patient outcomes. (Payne, 2013).
