As DEN exposure leads to the formation of major pro-mutagenic ethyl adducts, which can further lead to cancer in the liver. Now armed with a way to cause liver cancer, the researchers searched for ways to prevent or reverse it. Using the present efforts of other researchers toward natural remedies they came across Carvacrol. Generally recognized as a safe food additive, carvacrol is a natural isopropyl cresol present in the essential oil of oregano, thyme, pepperwort and wild bergamot. As it has been shown that antioxidants have potent antiplatelet, anti-proliferative and anti-carcinogenic effects, the researchers were pleased with their findings of carvacrol’s anti-proliferative effect in other studies.
