Hurricane Matthew affected residents in Greenville due to flooding in many of the communities located near the TarRiver. Thousands of Greenville-area residents had to evacuate due to the rising flood water. As a resident of Greenville, I became aware of the devastation caused by the aftermath of Hurricane Matthew just a few days after the storm. Which areas are likely to be inundated and estimation of population affected in case of floods? Identification of flood affected areas is an important input for devising the strategy for efficient management of floods. The storm of 2016 affected residents in Greenville due to flooding in many of the communities located near the TarRiver.
Hurricane Matthewhas been categorized as the most expensive storm in US history, estimated at cost near 6 billion dollars (USA Today, 2016 ). Mygoal of this research is to objectively estimate the areas that are affected by flooding in Pitt County. The analytical research will offer a fresh look at an important issue by study population, data collection, mechanisms to assure the quality of the study, ethical considerations, resources and references. The goal of my research will be to estimate the population of those affected by the recent flood and to research Greenville 's plan for devising efficient management of future flooding.
