Funding Planned Parenthood
Some people are trying to shut down an organization that’s helped many women. They have taught young children and teens about their bodies and the changes from childhood to adulthood.They have taught people about safe sex and using protection against Sexually Transmitted Diseases (STD’s) or unwanted pregnancy. They have taught people about abusive relationships and the spectrum of sexuality. They have taught people about their options if they get pregnant and do not know what to do. “Planned Parenthood is rooted in the courage and tenacity of american women and men willing to fight for women 's health, rights, and equality. Margaret Sanger, the founder of Planned Parenthood, is one of the movement 's great heroes. Sanger 's early efforts remain the hallmark of Planned Parenthood 's mission: providing contraception and other health services to women and men, funding research on birth control and educating specialists and the public about the results, and advancing access to family planning in the United States and around the world” (Sanger, 2014). Planned Parenthood has helped more than 200 million women and girls in developing countries with contraception and family planning. Abstinence isn’t appealing to young adults and it gives them the information and contraceptives to prevent teen pregnancies. “Planned Parenthood is the largest provider of comprehensive sex education in our communities. Each year, Planned Parenthood affiliates reach 1.5 million young people and parents with effective sex education and outreach in programs run by professional educators and youth peer educators” (Sanger, 2015).
