i. Study design/type
This cross-sectional pilot study aims to analyze perceptual changes in students using self-reported qualitative measures and survey tools that focus on empathy and competencies for working as a member of an interprofessional team during a semester-long, experiential-learning course that engages students within a pediatric community-based event. This study will use pre-/post-experiential learning design and will include both quantitative and qualitative measures. Using a mixed-methods design will help us gain a more holistic view and greater understanding of the benefits of integrating a pediatric, community-based program within a model for experiential-learning. Key factors and themes can then be identified to assess the feasibility of developing an implementation framework for experiential-learning activities that involve students from various disciplines, into a greater number of courses at CSU. ii. Procedures you will use from the beginning to the end of the study
An open sampling technique, which is a type of convenience sampling, will be used to recruit participation. IRB approved flyers will be routinely posted and handed out across CSU campus, and announcements for participation will be made in on-campus publications and through online services for CSU students and faculty. All students in the CSU professional Doctor of Physical Therapy program will be provided an overview of the study. Students will be asked to
