The Hotel chain got its brand name from another early hotel that the two had bought, which had a well-lighted sign on the roof saying "Sheraton Hotel" which was bulky and heavy and therefore too expensive to modify or move. So instead, they decided to call all their hotels by that name Sheraton Hotel.
