School Safety Proposal

The Laurens County School District is comprised of Laurens District 55 and 56, with
District 55 being the larger of the two rural school systems. Both contain an approximate
18,000 in the county. I however, am employed with Laurens District 55 High School, which encompasses a student body of about 1,700 students. The school district experienced financial recession back in 2008. Many teaching positions were eliminated, class sizes increased, budgets were tightened, salary step increases were frozen, and when student behavior was at its worse campus resource officers were decreased from two officers to one. impact on school safety and preventing violence. It is so important this day and age to have a plan should such a situation arise. Schools in Detroit currently install body scanning systems as an approach in aiding safety and violence prevention. When the students enter the designated entrances and exits, they pass through red plasma monitors which are installed above specified door ways. A computerized monitoring voice echoes a warning as it greets the students each morning (Detroit Free Press, September 20, 2011). Other technology that impacts school safety and violence includes the use of security cameras and metal detectors. Some school districts have instituted technological lock-keyed systems where a reactive button must be pressed by a guest who must then be screened by an onsite staff or faculty member before entering the premises.
