Introduction:
The investment banking industry is one of the prime destinations for talented business and finance graduates globally. As the industry is so popular, it is notorious for its highly competitive recruitment process. At present, the easiest way to enter this highly competitive industry is through the spring week programme. Almost all of the top UK based financial institutions offer spring weeks to undergraduate students including JP Morgan Chase, Morgan Stanley, Goldman Sachs, Deutshe Bank, Bank of America Merrill Lynch, Barclays, Credit Suisse, Citi, UBS and HSBC. As a second year student in an elite university, there are many options available to me.
Main Body
The 2007-2008 financial crisis severely damaged the banking scene with investment banks being especially affected. In the aftermath of the crisis, only 2 standalone investment banks remained; Morgan Stanley and Goldman Sachs Group, Inc. These are the two investment banks that I will be focusing on in this report. These two financial institutes compete in Wall Street’s most high- stakes rivalry. This rivalry began more than 80 years ago. Goldman Sachs best survived the crisis and has had stronger performance’s in recent years, although Morgan Stanley stock was a stronger play in 2013 and 2014. (Investopedia).
