Introduction:
The investment banking industry is one of the prime destinations for talented business and finance graduates globally. As the industry is so popular, it is notorious for its highly competitive recruitment process. At present, the easiest way to enter this highly competitive industry is through the spring week programme. Almost all of the top UK based financial institutions offer spring weeks to undergraduate students including JP Morgan Chase, Morgan Stanley, Goldman Sachs, Deutshe Bank, Bank of America Merrill Lynch, Barclays, Credit Suisse, Citi, UBS and HSBC. As a second year student in an elite university, there are many options available to me.

While the discipline or degree major is not important, Goldman Sachs are looking for individuals who can balance teamwork and competition, intensity and integrity, intellectual curiosity and leadership potential. They are also looking for an individual with a passion for excellence and an individual with an interest in the financial market. The entry requirements for the Morgan Stanley spring week programme are quite similar to the Goldman Sachs requirements. To be eligible to apply students must also be in their first year of a three year undergraduate degree or their second year of a four year degree. Students must have an interest in finance and a desire for a career in the investment banking industry. They must enter the careers section of the Goldman Sachs website and click on the apply now button. The next thing they must do is select the position they would like to apply for. They must complete the application details and then submit it. The application process should take between 15 and 20 minutes. When applying, students should have the following information readily available; contact information, university degree and dates, exam results, personal statements, language, CV, academic transcript. The application process for the Morgan Stanley spring week is quite similar to the application process for the Goldman Sachs spring week. Students must apply online at www.morganstanley.com/campus. All applicants are required to complete an online numeracy test within 48 hours of submitting an application. Also in addition to the Goldman Sachs application process, students are required to send in a cover letter.
