Essay On New Jersey

New Jersey is the greatest state in America. This has nothing to do with the fact that I have lived in New Jersey my whole life; I make this claim strictly with objectivity and fact based arguments. The diverse, and densely populated state is home to a bevy of attractive and titillating features. Historically, culturally, scenically, New Jersey is without equal. Conventional wisdom of New Jersey’s ails are not grounded in reality. New Jersey is called “The Garden State” for a reason, as despite popular belief, the state is more than just highways. New Jersey has everything you would want in a state and more. Many of the greatest Americans ever are from our boundaries. Our cuisine is renowned and unlike any other. Landmarks of television and film have been set here. From the shores, to the mountains and hills, the varied landscape offers picturesque scenes for all to witness. The reputation that Jersey has for being dirty, and inhabited by “scum” could not be further from the truth. “Jerseyites” are the pinnacle of what it means to be an American; and New Jersey is the best part of America. New Jersey has the greatest collection of people hailing from its confines of any state. The Boss and the Chairman …show more content…

Most of New Jersey does not smell, though there are some exceptions. The Pine Barrens make up 22% of our area, and that smells like “naturey” goodness. Also I’ll take the smell of a fresh bagel, hot pizza, or salty beach, over the marijuana haze of California, or industrial smog of New York any day of the year. I, along with most people, do not live off an exit of the Turnpike; so don’t ask me “what exit are you from?” Yes, New Jersey has its share of dumps, literally and figuratively, but for every downtrodden area, I can name you ten areas of high

Growing up in Brooklyn, in the early 90’s was one of the best experiences in my life. I remember the ice cream trucks, corner stores, fire hydrates being opened for the kids especially when there was a block party but most of all, the unity of families and neighbors. Many people will say “Brooklyn, only the strong survive” and I have lived by that phrase my entire life. It showed me the beauty of living in one of the boroughs that makes up New York City and has taught me to be a strong person. It’s not made for the weak.…

In the Camden environmental racism text, low-income, lower class groups that are mostly African American or Latino were exposed to the waste facilities and heavy industry chemicals from two federal superfund sites. Due to the fact that the facility is situated on state land, the SLC would not have to pay property taxes and would not offer any benefits to Camden and its residents. As a former industrial center, the manufacturing businesses that once provided well-paying jobs went out of business leaving behind polluted land and abandoned factories. All the white populations moved to neighboring suburban communities leaving only a population of color.…

However, the time is drawing near when New Jersey may become a future swing state. “New Jersey is the fourth most affluent state in the nation, with a median household income of $63,540” (Cohen, 2012). One of the most discernable Republican characteristics compared to Democrat’s, is the fact that they usually are wealthier than Democratic registered voters. Republicans have always supported the idea of taking care of the rich. Hence, I can see The Garden State being susceptible to swinging back to the right, where Republicans can win elections in this state, like they used…

Its reputation. My whole life I've lived in the relatively small town of Winston-Salem. But only recently did I realized the discontent many had for my town, this became evident throughout my high school experience as fellow peers of mine, began to openly expressed how they couldn't wait to escape. And as we talk of colleges, it seems they are not only planning to escape Winston, but all of North Carolina, due to their negative association. This is why the reputation of boring Winston is the most important concept that needs to change to me, because I know it is not an accurate portrayal of my city.…

The worst misconception that people seem to have about anybody who lives in the city of New York is that we are eternal and tireless tourists. That on Mondays we stroll around Central Park, ramble around Central Park Zoo, and have a picnic over the green meadows as we gaze at our privileged landscape of nature and civilization. Tuesdays we visit downtown Manhattan, bargain with Asians in Chinatown over a stinky brand imitation bag, and have pasta for dinner with the Italians in Little Italy. Wednesdays we shop around SoHo and have a break at Washington Square Park while somebody harmonically plays the fiddle and expects a tip in return. Thursdays we cross the Brooklyn Bridge and go to Times Square to have our photograph taken.…

New York State distinctiveness lies in its diversity of politics, cultures, economies and social programs. Described as a proactive and progressive state, New York represents a government unimaginable to many other states. Historically, state governments were looked at as “traditionalist and inactive,” because of their underrepresentation and ineffectiveness. However, New York State has overcome its once growing social problems, fiscal crisis, and having graded one of the least typical states in America (Table.1.2, Bowman). A uniqueness of New York State is its multitude of cultures within the population.…

The creation of a regional stormwater management plan has become an option in New Jersey intended to address stream water quality impairments, flooding and groundwater recharge on a watershed scale. Although municipal stormwater management plans are a mandatory requirement of the Stormwater Rules (N.J.A.C. 7:8), the option of creating a regional plan allows the area to be evaluated on a drainage basis and solutions to be prioritized for the entire watershed that is affected. New Jersey has a large percentage of urban/suburban land use that affects these three issues of water quality, water quantity and groundwater recharge. New Jersey also has 566 municipalities that are governed by local councils. The regional plan has the capability to unite…
