A Reflective Tour Through Writing The earliest I can remember navigating the writing world was when I was in fifth grade. My homeschool co-op classmates and I were tasked with rewriting the story of the Boston Tea Party. I made an outline of the existing narrative using keywords and created my own work based off my outline. The program required me to brainstorm adjectives, “ly” adverbs and quality verbs and also inspired me to be creative. Throughout my middle and highschool years, I have written numerous essays ranging from research to narrative, the latter being my favorite. I devote extra thought to titles and introductory paragraphs. To illustrate, I titled my third essay: “Starbucks Coffee Drinkers: Why the Hate?” I followed this question with a shocking quote found in the Huffington Post: “Starbucks Commissions Satan Himself to Illustrate Christmas Cup” (Wanshel). To write this cause and effect essay, I had to choose a recent event and explain which reasons were the most probable for causing that effect. This assignment required heightened cognitive thought with connecting ideas and drawing unique conclusions. Initially, it was difficult for me to find a topic I felt confident to dissect that met the assignment’s criteria. However, after I stumbled across an article discussing haters’ disgust with the design on Starbucks’ holiday cups, I thought, “How shallow of people, but I can use this.” I wrote this essay to touch on this seemingly trivial issue which points to greater issues within society as a whole. For the fourth and final essay, I evaluated the narrative Burning Fence: A Western Memoir of Fatherhood. My role in this essay was to interpret and evaluate the memoir. In this process, I strove to improve my critical thinking skills with the ability to express and support my opinion. To accomplish this, I shared my thoughts on the book’s strengths and weaknesses and provided examples from the book to support my claims. In the evaluation, I also included major ideas of fatherhood and unforgiveness presented by the book and expressed my agreement or lack
