After some reflection on interpersonal skills I have come up with the following...
The skills (I) have ... Throughout my adult life I have held jobs in both teaching and in the food handling industry, which helped me to develop the skills in Tact, Listening, Feedback, Counseling, and Anger Management. Tact - Tact is defined by "a keen sense of what to say or do to avoid giving offense; skill in dealing with difficult or delicate situations." (Tact, n.d). An example of tact being used would be in a parent/teacher conference situation. Many times conferences coincide with report card time, so that there is a proper time and place for both the parent and the teacher to discuss progress and if needed interventions or extra help. A teacher may have a student in class struggling with behavior problems such as, but not limited to, being bossy to other kids in the class. Part of a teacher 's role is to update parents on progress in academics, social, and behavioral development of the child. This requires a degree of tact because you can 't just use labeling. You as the teacher have to offer creative solutions to problems that arise. You have to see past the circumstance and focus on what the child needs and how can I as the teacher best help support this parent while their child is in my class? This parent may be seeing this behavior at home and may not know how to handle it. Giving the parent ideas and developing a working relationship with them is the goal. What can…
