A Reflection On Being Staged

1) After reading the script, but before seeing the show choose a moment from the script that you are most looking forward to seeing staged. What about this moment do you think makes it an interesting moment to stage? Please, cite the moment by page and, if necessary, quote directly from the script.
After reading the script, I looked forward to seeing the moment that Amir gets outraged by Emily and hits her. I was looking forward to see how they would act out the hit because the actors could not actually hit each other. In the movies, fighting scenes are played out really well due to the special effects and the fact that it is on film and not in person. It made me think that it must be much harder to act out a punch, hit, or kick on stage when an

I was also interested in seeing how real it would seem and if I could feel the intensity. Reading the abuse was certainly a shock but seeing abuse is much more horrific; therefore, I was curious to see how real the whole scene would feel. (Scene 3 - page 79)
2) Make a note either during intermission or after the show about what moment you found most surprising. You will need to provide a detailed description of the moment (Where are the actors on stage? What are they wearing? What do the lights look like? How do they move? What do they say?). Then, explain why you found that moment surprising. (Did it differ than when you read it? Was the acting especially powerful? Etc.)
The moment I felt most surprising was when Amir admitted that he felt proud on September 11th. This moment was during the dinner party that Emily and Amir were hosting. Each character is wearing very nice clothing to show that they are upper class. It was just after the group was eating the salad when the discussion about Muslims and the Islamic religion began getting more heated. Amir and Isaac are in the living room

In assessing a performance, I approached it much as an adjudicator for a University Interscholastic League One Act Play contest is charged. I begin by reading the play, which I was vaguely familiar with and possibly considering as an option for my students. I find when I choose a play (especially for contest) I spend more time with it, in pre-production researching and preparing, and it is usually a longer season with the contest play. (Most shows go up in four to six weeks and run for one to two weeks, while contest pieces rehearse for six to eight weeks and can run for up to six weeks.)…

We all have heard colleges telling applicants that they approach each and every application holistically because they want to get to know each potential incoming student as a whole. It is easy to find comfort in that but we all know it is only true for certain colleges and certain groups of people. Groups of people such as really rich white’s who have the wealth to donate great amount of fortune to a college and bribe them into acceptances. In my Satire Skit, I am mocking the wealthy white’s that do not deserve to be accepted to any higher education Institution but because the world runs on money, they are perfect in the eyes of many.…

It was both comedic and dramatic and held my attention the entire film. It gave me a renewed respect for journalists and crew members that brave dangerous scenarios and territories all in the name of getting the story to the public. It’s also a valid reminder that our technological advances have made our news coverage of war far superior. The events of September 11th, 2001, and the subsequent war, have been extensively documented. We are kept up to date on any and all occurrences in the Middle East.…

I was thoroughly impressed by the professionalism and skill displayed by all the actors involved in the production of Stage Kiss. However, I found the performance of Stephanie Lynge and her co-star David Patrick Ford to Stand out amongst the rest. Lynge’s performance was both captivating and convincing, while Ford’s combination of body movement and projection, only added to the already fantastic performance between the pair. Stephanie Lynge’s performance was among the most conniving throughout the play. The way Lynge portrayed all the different scenarios she was in, often caused me to forget I was watching a staged performance.…

The actors had a lot of energy that undoubtedly captured the viewer’s attention. Each actor had a certain characteristic that made him or her truly fascinating to watch. They were able to interact with each and every audience member. This left me, a viewer, who was in the middle of the room, feeling as though I was in the play. The plays story may have been their biggest obstacle, however.…

I went to the To Kill a Mockingbird play with my class on October 24. The whole school walked to the Dock Street Theater during second block. I sat between Chad Harle and Janae. The play followed the plot of the book pretty well, and the actors embodied the characters phenomenally well. After the play finished, we all went back to school and finished our day.…

Screen and stage entertainment are very different; although, they seem to have strikingly similar characteristics and have many comparable features that some do not even realize. Stage provides live entertainment that creates a bond with the audience that can be the same plot but performed so differently each time. Screen is filmed entertainment that can have special effects and captivate every single detail but has no real connection to the audience. Usually, how a person feels about stage or screen entertainment is based mostly on preference and somewhat based on the time era they grew up in.…

For this assignment, I watched a play called “The Insanity of Mary Girard” that was performed by a UT Theatre group, Round About Players, and was shown at the SAC black box. The play revolved around a young woman named Mary Girard who is thrown into an insane asylum by her wealthy husband, Stephen Girard. In the insane asylum, she is tormented by figments of her imagination and is told that she is not to leave the insane asylum for as long as she may live. In this particular adaptation, the cast consisted of 6 actors, 1 playing the role of Mary Girard and the other 5 doubling up on characters.…

Project 5 Reflection 1. What did I notice about how believable and relatable I was in this performance? I felt that the energy and enthusiasm I brought to the stories helped make my performance believable and relatable. I tried to include Broadway fan snippets in each story to help bring that relatability through the script and through the delivery. For example, the “not throwing away his shot” line about Lin Manual-Miranda, which is a snippet from a song from Hamilton.…

The supporting cast of Thornton’s theatrical masquerade consisted almost entirely of male figures, whether romantic, paternal or controversial figures. This chapter discusses the media descriptions of the different relationship dynamics between Thornton and the range of male characters. Contemporary ideas of love, marriage, class and patriarchy coincided with expectations of masculinities and impacted the portrayal in question. The interactions between her and the various men in her tale also reflected continued traditions of the female sailor trope. Overall, the relationships and behaviour she exhibited with the men reflected in many ways an idealized woman who was bold, brave and fiercely loving but also was crucially aware of her place…

Reflection : The main exercises which struck me the most were; trust walk, pretend play and roaming around. Trusting myself into someone else’s hands was really difficult for myself, perhaps because my character is more controlling. I was very hesitant to give up my control and that does reflect alot on my personality, however I did follow the rules to it, as hard as it may have been. This particular detail gives me room to emphasise on my teaching, in which I need to learn how to trust the children more and to not control but allow them to take risks.…
