A Raisin In The Sun Title Analysis

A Raisin in the Sun is a play by Lorraine Hansberry that has been shown on Broadway in 1956. The title of this play come from a poem “Harlem” by Langston Hughes. The story of this play tells us about a black family experiences in the Washington Park Subdivision of Chicago’s Woodlawn neighborhood. The characters in the play Walter and Ruth Younger they have a son Travis. Under one roff also lives Walters mother Lena and his sister Beneatha. They all live in a property two-bedroom apartment on Chicago’s south side. Walter is a limousine driver and barely making a living off of it. Walter is desperately wishing to become wealthy then what he is right now. So Walter comes up with an idea to invest in a liquor store with his friends Willy and Bobo. At the beginning for the play Walter’s father passes away recently. His mother is waiting for a life insurance check for $10,000. But Walter thinks he had a sense of entitlement to the money, But Walter’s Mother has religious objects of alcohol and Beneatha has to remind him it is his mothers call how she wishes to spend that money. Every time a man gets excited about something, he ends up to be claims. A woman tries to have a little temper with his enthusiasm by telling him to “eat his eggs.” Being quiet and eating one’s eggs represents an acceptance of the adversity that Walter and the rest of the Youngers face in life. Walter believes that Ruth is making his eggs to keeps him from achieving his dream. They end up arguing that Ruth should be more supportive of him. The eggs she makes every day symbolize her mechanical approach to supporting him. Ruth provides him with nourishment is always in the same predictable
