Yes, I do believe that Hansberry’s stage drama has helped be comprehend what she wanted her audience to understand through the story of the Younger family. Hansberry wanted to tell her audience the truth about the black people in that time period and teach about their life. she wanted to teach the audience whet the black people did on a day to day basis. She wanted her audiences to understand that the African American race is just as complicated and similar as other races of people are. She wants the audiences that experience the play first hand and those that read about the play in the future to realize that each race and group of people is more similar then they original believe. Each race is a mix of beliefs, but we all come from the same …show more content…
The pronoun of “they” is used to describe the rest of races including white people. She stated, “I think it will help a lot of people to understand how we are just as complicated as they are…” This play is important to every race of people, because it describes and explained that even though on many have a different skin tone then your people have, it does not meant that they are any different. We each have our own dreams and hopes, and when these dreams are deferred, we all act in various different ways. I believe that Hansberry was trying to educate her audiences of the prejudices that exist in the world, but prove that when one aspires and strives to know and talk to each other as a people we realize that are very similar and have many of the same personalities, etc. This play is important to both black and white audiences because this story can each teach us many lessons, including the strength a family poses, that all families reach ups and downs, and how we each are very similar and have

Joseph Cornell was an artist known for his shadow box art. He kept his interests separate and together by creating these boxes which also reflected the small wooden house in which he lived. The script is made of compartments rather than having one event trigger another. A character may come into a scene or Cornell may move out of a scene and the scene completely changes. It is not always clear if the stage directions are to only be followed or if some are to be read.…

I was fortunate enough to be able to attend a production of ''The Diviners,'' on Sunday, March the Nineteenth. The performance was put on by the Calhoun Community College theatre department. The play was staged in the black box theatre of The Alabama Center for the Arts in Decatur, Alabama. It was an impressive performance especially when considering the size and arrangement of the stage. Even with such limitations, the cast were able to turn the stage into a window into prohibition era Indiana.…

Throughout the years society has been stoic in the matters of racial conflict, whether it is the slavery during the Civil War, or the fear black men being shot by white officers today: there has always been a divide in the races. A man known famously as Dr.Seuss created many political cartoons to depict many of these social conflicts that are now more than ever relevant. These pieces of artwork are more relevant due to the recent conflicts in places around the world working with race, and Dr.Seuss uses political cartoons to demonstrate that.. Through his artwork, Dr.Seuss uses metaphoric images, and satire to portray the universal idea of race.…

The play, while limited to where it could show the Youngers’ experiencing this hardship, manages to show these rich characters make it through trying times to an astounding reception. While the movie adds new locations and fleshes out the setting, it does so at the expense of several important elements of the characters Hansberry so carefully crafted. Neither perspective is better than the other, but both combined provide a better overall understanding of the lives the Youngers had to live, and as a result, audiences see more clearly into the terrible past African-Americans have experienced. As providing a public eye on discrimination was Hansberry’s intent with the play, this creative difference should be something she would have greatly…

Directors Note Callum Langdon Intro What a privilege it is to work with David Williamson on his 2009 masterpiece, Let the Sunshine. I chose to feature it in the 2016 season because it is still relevant especially to young adolescents trying to find their identity and really captures a perfect image of society today. Also because I can relate to the play through personal experience.…

In the play “A Raisin in the Sun” the author, Lorraine Hansberry, has incorporated examples of all 3 I’s of oppression. The three I’s of oppression are interpersonal, institutional, and internalized. Institutional oppression happens when one group has more power than another group and our institutions (government, schools, media..) favor the more powerful group. One example of institutional oppression in the play was when the organization tried to tell them that they couldn’t live there because they were black. On page 140 it says, “ As I say, that for the happiness of all concerned that our Negro families are happier when they live in their own communities”.…

Jane Anderson’s The Reprimand and Michael Hollinger’s Naked Lunch both portray how men have power and dominance over women. In The Reprimand, the two ladies are discretely fighting over a man, their boss, but play it off as if they just don’t like each other and don’t work well with each other. In Naked Lunch, the ex boyfriend can’t handle that his ex girlfriend won’t eat meat anymore. Eventually he gets her to eat it. The two plays are different but alike.…

    Play Critique Essay

As a person who has only attened two other plays in their life, people might call me “unqualified” to review a play; these people are wrong. My qualifications for play review come solely from an “excess” amount of musicals listened to, pirated videos, and animatics watched on youtube. Seeing Guys and Dolls live was a great experience as a whole, and I enjoyed myself throughly. Understandably there were a few things that I disagreed with, so I will nitpick and pretend that my qualifications alone make me justified to critique a play that no doubt took alot of effort, stress, and love to make.…

Glengarry Glen Ross is a play by David Mamet about the cutthroat job of a sales person, and the so-called manhood it takes to be in it. Later on this play was made into a movie with an added character to really put the pressure on them as a “man”. In this paper it will discuss the articles researched, the interview, and a compare and contrast of the play/film. The scholarly and sales techniques articles talked about in this essay will inform the paper by teaching the sales techniques and what it takes to be in this business. They inform the paper by comparing the play/film sales life and techniques to real life.…
