When I read "A Raisin in the Sun", I focused on the main characters, Walter, Lena and Beneatha. The author made the three characters that have different personality and situation such as sex, education and goal. I believe that the author has some reasons why she made these dissimilar setting.

Therefore, I really want to analyze how or why they had different mind and goal that made some problems in the play. Moreover, how they changed after they lost all of the money. (There is a reason why the author made them to lose all of their money. And, that cause giving a lesson to the readers)

A Raisin in the Sun Title Controversy; Emotion v. Plot Titles are not to be taken lightly as they are what a reader keeps in mind throughout a piece. “Mother to Son” and “Harlem” are both written by Langston Hughes and portray the struggles of maintaining a dream during difficult times. “Mother to Son” uses the extended metaphor of a staircase that parallels the struggles and overall actions in the play A Raisin in the Sun by Lorraine Hansberry, while “Harlem” uses graphic images in order to form a well developed motif and mood of the idealistic dream, which is matched in the play. As a title is meant to add to a piece of work, and enhance a certain idea the author deems significant, Lorraine Hansberry contemplated using the title The Crystal…

A Raisin in the Sun is a drama written by Lorraine Hansberry it takes place in Southside Chicago in about 1959. Hansberry uses the theme that the color of a persons skin is what keeps them from reaching their dreams. She uses characters to create a social divide between the black community, as well as the black and white communities based on wealth. This idea is represented by the polarization of Beneatha’s two love interests: Joseph Asagai and George Murchison. As well as Beneatha’s older brother Walter, who is stuck in between the two love interests when it comes to which side of the spectrum that he is on because he is so infatuated with his dream and the material benefit that it represents for him.…

All of the characters in A Raisin in the Sun face many challenges throughout the play. The dreams of the characters are torn down by each other and the outsiders in the book. The hopes and dreams the characters have are brought down by both the prejudices seen in the play and also the dreams of the other characters. The play “A Raisin In the Sun” and the poem “Harlem” both concentrate on the attainment of the forever promised “American Dreams” (higher education, prosperity, equality, freedom to come and go as you desire and to be whoever and whatever you want). These aspirations were and still are the hopes and goals society offers to all of us, unfortunately, many African-Americans rarely achieved and experienced them. Both writings depict the unfair treatment of African-Americans during the 1960’s with each implying how, discrimination and segregation, made achieving these dreams virtually insurmountable for most of the black population. The main difference between the play and the poem are the endings. The poem ends with a reference to the total destruction…

The American Dream is freedom given to every person in America, no matter their race, gender, culture, religion, or beliefs and an equal chance at prosperity. The Younger family in A Raisin in the Sun by Lorraine Hansberry, is an African American family living in the 20th century in a cramped apartment, dealing with racial prejudice and discrimination. My knowledge of federal housing policies and real estate practices throughout the 20th century enhances my understanding of the Younger family’s housing troubles by improving my perception of the average black family’s living conditions and struggles against segregation. In A Raisin in the Sun, by Lorraine Hansberry, factors such as racial zoning, immigration policies, and inadequate municipal services in ghettos might have contributed to the Younger family living in a cramped, overpriced apartment.…
