The Younger family had been through so many trials and hard times that the decision of what to do with the money was the right one. Mama had bought a new house in a predominately white neighborhood. She felt the family needed a new start. Mama, who is the mother of Walter Lee and Beneatha, received an insurance check because of the death of her husband. She split the rest of the money between her son and daughter and trusts that Walter would do the right thing. Mama wanted Walter to feel like he was the head of the family and that he had some control. Unfortunately Walter invests all of the money to his liquor store deal because he was thinking more about his son’s education and his own selfish things other than thinking about his sister. …show more content…

He told him that Willy Harris, who is the one who was helping them with the investment, has run off with the money. Everything that Walter invested was gone, which included the money he was supposed to deposit for his sister. Mama was so hurt by what Walter had done. Walter is not the perfect man and has caused some grief among the family especially with his wife, who he tends to argue with as often as the sun coming up. The couple has other problems such as Ruth deciding to get an abortion and Walter finding that hard to believe that she would do such a thing. The couple, mainly Walter, argues about how depressed he is about his job and the fact that they live in
