In the poem, “Their sex life” by A. R. Ammons, it would seem, at first glance, that it is almost too simple in nature, like it was written for Twitter-Lite, in which one can only use 30 characters or less. Possibly it is a modern day Haiku, two lines, fourteen characters, four syllables.
Taken as a whole “One failure on top of another”, metaphorically speaking, the poet can be talking about anything. Career, relationship, stock picks and yes, obviously, sex.
