You have a good example of a qualitative research question. There are many qualitative research questions that could be addressed about COPD. COPD affects everyone in the family including the patient therefore you may also examine experiences of the family members. You could address how the spouse, children, or other support systems handle living with a patient that has a diagnosis with COPD. Qualitative research seeks to discover and understand the phenomenon. (LoBiondo-Wood & Haber, 2014). Understanding how a patient feels about certain situations allows nurses to take into consideration these feelings. The plan of care can be modified allowing for patient and or support system to receive the best quality of care.
