During the construction of this essay, I practiced the skill and learned the strategies to write a timed essay about a certain topic, which helped me with my final timed essay and other writing assignments. Also, the in-class essay serves as a foundation for the revised essay. During the first draft, to make the essay more reliable, I found a variety of evidence to support my thesis. I also practiced organizing appropriate evidence and incorporate them into the contents of the essay. After several drafts were written, I went to tutor sessions at the Writer’s Resource Lab and Learning Assistance Center. The tutors are helpful, and they helped me find grammatical errors and run-on sentences. So, the grammatical errors of this essay decrease. In addition, there are multiple perspectives in this essay, and the counter arguments show the consideration of both sides. Overall, the essay content expresses a thoughtful response to the essay prompt, and the essay is well-organized and cohesive with a variety of use of transition words.
From this class, I wrote four timed essays, and I learned how to utilize the first 10 minutes to outline and do pre-writing. Also, one important factor of an in-class essay with high quality is the careful reading of the prompt. In the prompt, I should write personal experience and state an explicit argument if the prompt has these requirements.
