A Portrait Of The Artist Essay

A Portrait of the Artist My biggest goal in life is to travel. I’m blessed to have come from a family that has shared the views of how important travel is. I believe travel makes you modest; you realize how small you are in this big, big world. Your body and soul only occupy a tiny portion of the earth. When something doesn’t go your way, or you’re just having a bad day, you realize how many bigger problems there are than your assumed “big problems”. I try to keep this in mind when I write my papers. Starting a paper is the biggest struggle, especially when your brain seems to not be working at all the one day it’s supposed to. When I take a step back from my paper, and realize it’s not the end of the world when words won’t come to me, I …show more content…
I feel daring, adventurous, courageous. This helps bring me confidence in writing my papers. When I imagine myself sitting on a tropical beach, smelling the salty sea air, my mind opens up to endless possibilities. Just how a tourist’s mood changes when they flee for vacation, my mind does the same. I feel like a completely different person when I picture myself somewhere else, and then I finally begin my paper. I feel like you learn more outside of the class. I believe the real lessons begin outside of the typical classroom setting. Don’t get me wrong, the classroom is a place where thoughts are being shared and ideas bounce off one another of your peers. But I feel boxed in, mentally and physically, between those four walls, and that’s why I let my mind …show more content…
I like to embrace change. Change plays an important role in the writing process. A writer’s work is always undergoing construction. The writer themselves, or their writing technique in general. A writer changes their train of thought when struggling to type a paper. A writer makes changes between their outline, to rough draft, to final copy. Just like how people change through life, a writer’s work changes with them. I’ve noticed a huge advancement throughout my years of writing. Plus, my work can only get better from here. Although, I’m never satisfied with my work.
I would say I’m an above average writer. Writing is one of my strengths in school. I’ve never gotten a grade lower than a B on my papers in high school, but I’m still not convinced my paper is ever ready to turn in. Through the entire writing process, no matter how many times I edit and revise my paper, I’m never content with my work. I try to remind myself that even the best, published writers go through the same struggles I come across. I need to keep in mind that I am not alone in the struggle of beginning a

Charles Emile-August Carolus-Duran’s piece titled Portrait of an Artist in her Studio represents the action of a women painting. This piece was made in the late 19th century (c. 1880) and was considered one of Carolus-Duran’s great society portraits. The piece’s present location is the La Salle University Art Museum in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, and its original location was *****. This portrait is oil on canvas, and the “quick, loose brushwork” technique can be accredited to masters such as Diego Velasquez and Edouard Manet (placard.) Just as the painting suggests, the painting’s subject is an artist, many say Carolus-Duran’s wife or mistress, in her studio.…

There are different types of traveling. We travel for vacationing and sight seeing, we travel because we want to get away from our daily routine, we travel to see our loved ones, to escape cold weather, to escape war and tyrant rulers, to look for a better life. Bedouin in the desert travel looking for water to sustain themselves and their livestock. In the two essays I’ve read “Summerland” written by Peter Jon Lindberg, and “A Prison, A Paradise” by John Jeremiah Sullivan.…

I never considered myself to be an excellent writer but still thought I wrote well enough to get my point across without confusing the reader too much. However, any confidence that I had in my writing skills was lost for a short time when I had to write my first timed essay in school. Luckily, the timed essay assignment also helped me see that I needed to work on my writing and, as a result, actually turned out to be a more positive experience rather than a negative one. It was just another regular school day that was near its end, and I had one more class to go to before everyone was released to go home.…

Whether we know it or not in this modern society we are writers everyday of our lives. These interactions shape not only how we communicate but how we write as well. Personally, I have been shaped by the influence of both other writers I have known and those I have only read the creations of. Those same influences contributed to both my writing style in the classroom and to my identity as a writer. I spent a lot of my childhood with my nose deep in fiction novels at near by libraries.…

My writing isn’t nearly as advanced as I would like it to be, and this is mostly because I don’t write on my free time. I only ever sit down to write when I need to for an assignment or if it is something for work, however, I do occasionally make journal entries, but it is very rare. Even though I don’t write very often, when I do, it isn’t that hard. I ranked myself a six on challenged to gifted writer because I don’t find writing a challenge, but I am not that great at it either. On the other scales I put myself down as a five.…

I’m happy with my writing skills but I obviously do see a need for improvement. I could improve greatly on procrastination and sentence structures. I certainly will strive to keep focused on the topic and to write as if it comes naturally to me so that I can write papers without worrying about too many things. In the end, I feel I am a hair above average when it comes to writing about topics because I think in a very mature way and it feels like a blessing in this age we live in. I hate to compare myself to others because as people we are all incredibly different from one another…
