Individualistic Sub-Culture In America

Citizens in United States have a love hate relationship with government. As mentioned in the slides on American Political Culture, most people fear the government but call government for help when disaster strikes. Overtime, business are mostly owned by citizens, and they feel that government will gets in the way of profit and making so much profit from them by taxes. During the great depression, citizens called the governments for help, and the government gave many opportunities for citizens. Also when natural disaster occurs, government rescue citizens as they call for help. Citizens also call for war when terrorists attack the United States. Moralistic sub-cultures, also called socialism, believes that government is a strong positive force, concerned with moral issues, and valuing individuals for the benefits of public. Traditionalistic sub-cultures is the belief of strong government to preserve the dominant of social, class, and religious values. It was started from the Old South, and it is the strongest sub-cultures in the South. This sub-cultures benefits more for social elites. Individualistic sub-cultures, or capitalism, is individuals should have further private enterprise and prefer less government involvement. Social cleavage divide the society into groups. America has been like this for so long. I believe it is not easy to cross-cut in this situation. However, time will solve every problem. For example, during the industrial revolution, workers weren 't treated nicely like modern society. But, now the safety and every other important factors for workers are coming out to protect their rights. United States is divided into five cultural region, and the New England is the most interesting region for myself because I lived in the New England area for the first serval years in United States. Unlike Texas, most places in New England is crowd. There are many of the historical objects and buildings, and a lot of immigrants live in this area. United States has so many cultural icons, but the bald eagle, the national bird, is the most interesting icon. It symbolized the strength and freedom of America. Most of immigrants came to America mostly for freedom and protection. Many of the immigrants were not treated well in their countries. Also United States, the one of the First World countries, showed its strength through out the history. I believe money will be the most important icon. Every individuals want to have more money.
