Appendix A: Self-Reflection on Interview Assessment Through out this interview process I have learned to come prepared, be a S.N. as well as a real person and listen before you diagnose. It is important to come prepared by looking at the patient’s history or in this case their disease as well as the symptoms that are associated with the disease. I looked into the symptoms of obsessive-compulsive disorder prior to the interview to provide the proper therapeutic communication. If I would not have come prepared, I may have touched the patient to provide comfort when it would have actually caused the patient more anxiety and distress.…

I have been a police officer in Knoxville, Tennessee for the last 18 years and I am known across the city as a very fair officer that doesn’t play. The motto I live by each day is to treat everyone the way I want to be treated. I do not racially profile, but what I do and teach is get out and learn everyone in the community and their families. If I see someone, who does not live there, loitering by themselves, I will conduct a field interview no matter their race or ethnicity.…

As I continue my passion of interviewing those involved in the entertainment industry, sometimes I happen upon people in most unusual ways. I happened to put in a request to interview an actor (Karl E. Landler--his interview will happen later), and this charming gentleman included Marem Hassler as part of that request. I was quite unfamiliar with her and her fantastic work, but as I have continued to interact with her and discover her impressive list of credits, she happily agreed to answer some comprehensive questions encompassing everything from her early work to her present projects as well her general philosophy of her career and her life in general. RH: Why did you decide to become an actress?…

Getting practice using the techniques we have been learning in real time, with a real person, made the content more concrete. I was conscious of employing solution focused techniques as much as possible in the short time we had to conduct the interview. While my performance produced mixed results, the practice was a good start to becoming an expert using the technique.
