We need to set the environment to a positive learning experience to fit the individual need to help them accomplish their learning goals. In a recent controversy, Yale students protested against faculty members for an offensive email. The problem is that a faculty member sent out an email in response to a warning that students should not dress in “culturally unaware and insensitive” costumes. However, the head of a residential dorm, Erika Christakis replied to the message by stating that “students should be able to wear whatever they want, even if they end up offending people.” This is very controversial because by stating her opinion on this topic, to the minorities of Yale University it looks as if Christakis is supporting racial harassment.…

Part A: The two aspects of the effective pedagogy statement from the New Zealand Curriculum (Ministry of Education, 2007) that I will focus on are creating a supportive learning environment and making connections to prior learning and experience. These are two aspects that resonate with me and I consider them to be significant factors in effective teaching practices. Creating a supportive learning environment is important for a teacher to consider because it sets the foundation of the classroom, both physically and emotionally, between all members of the classroom community. For a teacher to be effective positive relationships need to be developed, not just with the students, but also with the wider school community, such as parents so that…

There are events in life that can be unpleasant to a person, and, when faced with similar situations, emotional consequences could come into place creating distress or anxiety within the individual. These situations are often known as “triggers”. Young adults are typically the most affected by this as they are in the process of changing and discovering new things in life. Colleges have taken this into account, and, in an attempt to protect students from distress, some are advocating for “trigger warnings.” Such warnings would require that students be informed when material that can be offensive or distressing will be presented.…

I believe that in order to have a successful classroom, a teacher must implement a variety of classroom management strategies to ensure that from September until June every single student gets the best education that he/she deserves. Even before the students arrive, one of the first things a teacher needs to do is make the classroom a warm, welcoming and safe place for each individual student. I want to make sure that from the first moment the students enter the classroom until the last moment before they leave that they will feel comfortable asking questions to both their peers and I. In addition, I would like my future students to feel like they can be themselves and at the same time accept their peers for who they are. When I do have…
