A Personal Story Of A Dog-Personal Narrative

Growing up as an only child I always begged my parents for a pet. I have had fish, hamsters, hermit crabs, but none of them ever seemed to fill my need for friendship. I needed something that could show its affection back, something big enough to play with, and most importantly a pet that would not leave me, a fragile youth, in tears in just a few short months.
When I was nine years old, my fate changed. My beloved hamster, Sweetie Two, passed away while I was away at a friend’s house and I was distraught. My mother, being quite tired of the many failed attempts to find her lonely daughter a pet, finally broke down and convinced my father to let me get a cat. Being a friendless, pet-less, and generally clueless third grader, this was probably not the best idea to let me pick out with cat I wanted from the Humane Society, but that is exactly what happened. So, nine years into my already odd life, I welcomed in a creature that could only loosely be described as a cat, my cat, Tegan.

Her chin is also white and she has half a white mustache. She has black stripes like a tiger that get thicker towards her tail. As she has aged she has started turning grey, but only on her tail. She is shaped liked a basketball with a head, limbs, and tail. She looks similar to a sack of potatoes, probably like a 20 pound sack. She had light green eyes with yellow veins running through them. The left eye is lazy and when Tegan is very content is noticeable. When she opens her mouth, it is also easy to see that she has only a few teeth, due to a thyroid issue that existed before I adopted

When I was seven years old my life was unequivocally changed; the movie Cheetah by Jeff Blyth was introduced into my life. The story revolves around two California teens that travel to Kenya with their parents and befriend a Masai boy and raise a cheetah cub “Duma.” The three teens quickly learn, they need to set Duma free, so she may have a chance to survive in the wild. However, once they find out that poachers have taken the cheetah to race against greyhounds, the three teens embark on a journey to save her. From that moment forward, I made myself a promise to save animals.…

As I look up at the sky, which is blood red like the sun stabbed it so it could get away from its eternal partner,I begin to hear the horrible noises of these sky creatures. Their horrible squealing draws everything's attention because it sounds the an incantation to summon the devil from the pits of the underworld. The howling wind joins in trying to make the summoning happening quicker but instead it makes me feel like my ears are going to bleed and starts to cast a sleeping spell on anyone caught in this siren song. The trees become alive to this bewitching tunes as their rodent inhabitants begin to run around trying to attack one another like wolves attacking a deer. Next door the neighbor’s rowdy brats come outside, probably because this is their favorite tune, with their wild and atrocious dog to play game of run around and destroy the yard or as most call it fetch.…

    1. Why are you interested in the Patagonia field course? Last fall, I was elated to transfer to Cornell from my community college in Ann arbor, Michigan, where I received my Associate Degree in Math and Science. At my previous college, I had so many incredible opportunities to learn about the anatomy, physiology, and obscurities of every phylum, through dissections and field work. As my knowledge and respect for wildlife and conservation grew, I was given the opportunity to be the cartographer and artist for the Washtenaw Community College Nature Trail that was put into place this year for education and conservation efforts in the natural habitat for the many species that surrounds the campus.…

Fluffy A few years ago, when my mom lived in a house, not an apartment, My sister had gotten a cat named fluffy because of her obsession with cats. Fluffy looked like a cat out of a cartoon, with ginger fur, bright as if it could be mistaken for a fluffy orange, and white stripes, that looked like lightning bolts across the skin. I thought nothing would go wrong, but boy was I wrong… When Fluffy was not being played with, I would cuddle with him on the rocking chair until he fell asleep, which made him look like a kitten, It helped me deal with my anxiety, and stay happy with that. One particular day, I went to grab Fluffy to cuddle with him, I guess he wasn't in the mood because when I tried to pick him up, out of the blue, he…

The Good Deed I walked into Amwell Pet Supply to restock on hay and kibble for my new pet guinea pig, Chestnut, and my new pet rabbit, Butterscotch. As I turned around, many cages of cats caught my eye and the cats’ loud purring resonated in my ear. I passed each cage noticing a grey cat, a black cat, and a orange and white cat that reminded me of a tiger. They all had a clean finish to their fur, like that of recently trimmed hair.…

In retrospect, what may have drawn the creature’s attention, was in the way I walked. Familiar to every eight-year-old prepubescent, was the act of not bothering to lift your leg one after the other. An often reprimanded undertaking, that created a great deal of sound, when hard plastic greeted with worn and cracked concreate. The sky had greyed, and it had an annoying indecisive attitude as to whether it wanted to rain or not. It was halfway down a “shortcut,” an alley that separated the pharmacy, and another shop I would have engrained into memory, if I knew I would never be able to recount it.…
