A Personal Review Of Ar Tuckman's Five Stage Model Of Community Service

My group decided to volunteer at Loaves and Fishes. Their mission is to provide nutritious meals and support services in a dignified, safe, and caring environment (loavesfishes). They serve 4,000 nutritious free meals every week that meet both the dietary needs and the preferences of their guests. They have two locations in the eastside neighborhood center and the Goodwill Industries on North 7th Street. I was able to attend both locations since one of them was fully booked. I learned a few things about myself while I was volunteering. As a volunteer, the foods were premade, but everyone had to cut up vegetables, prepare sandwiches and salad. It was fun to prep food and getting to know my teammates. This experience was enjoyable and rewarding. I feel accomplished while I was helping those in need and the community. In addition, while I was handing out food, these people thank me which was a surprised since I didn’t do anything much. I was there to do meet my requirement which was the only thing in my mind. As I observe these individuals, I am thankful that I have the basic necessities that these people do not have. Some of them are homeless and they live from the food that Loaves and Fishes provides to them. They …show more content…

For my sixty hours of volunteer work I decided to volunteer at a Child Life Center which was in a poverty stricken area in Norfolk, Va. At the child life center my job as a volunteer was to assist the children with their homework, help the staff monitor the children on local field trips, as well as serve as a positive role model for the children. The experience I had at Park Place Child Life Center was one I will honestly never forget. Although I didn’t get any actual counseling experience, I was able to learn the ways that the non-profit organization received their funding, I was able to gain experience in working with the youth, and I was also able to make a positive impact on the lives of children who were considered “at-risk youth”. To go there every day and be able to see the change the children had in their behaviors and how much just some attention and affection from adults impacted their behaviors was honestly amazing.…

From a little girl, until now, I have always been raised on the principle of giving back to your community . For over seven years I have been an active volunteer at the Inidantown Food Pantry. Though it seems like a minute role, it is a very impactful one. Indiantown is a small cited triangulated between Okeechobee, Stuart, and Palm Beach that, by statistics of the 2016 Census, houses just a little over 6,000 people.…

I was able to volunteer at a local bank that was sponsoring the Lake Park Elementary School for the holiday season. The school has over 300 underprivileged students between the ages of kindergarten and fifth grade. Most of the students at that school only have one meal per day. Along with other volunteers, I packaged bags that contained candy, toys, toiletries, a blanket, and a pair of athletic shoes. The bags were able to provide the children with goods that we often take for granted.…

In order to raise money for prom this year, I accompanied the class of 2019, for 5.5 hours, to a west point game and worked in concessions. I had a great experience working with my peers to achieve a goal that would benefit the senior class. Recently I have engaged in service with my church, for 4 hours, helping to move furniture while they were switching locations. From this experience I learned that sacrificing my time for a communal effort may seem minuscule, but ultimately helps increase efficiency. Also I volunteered at the annual Easter egg hunt at memorial park last weekend for 3.5 hours.…

I am a current undergraduate student attending St. John’s University as an accounting major in my sophomore year. I am writing to you with the intent of applying for the Accounting/Budget Intern position as seen through the St. John’s Career Link resource. After living on Staten Island for more than a decade, I have grown a desire to become more in tune with the Staten Island community. I would like to use the knowledge I have gained through my accounting courses to assist in and to better understand the process of maintaining the budget needed to support the Staten Island community. I have volunteered at the Jewish Community Center on Staten Island to provide food and other necessities to people in need and through this experience have learned how to organize and maintain an efficient system of distributing packages and scheduling appointments.…

On Sunday, November 6th, I volunteered at Nourishing Food Banks through Circle K. I had never volunteered at a food bank before, so I figured that this would be a good opportunity to experience it and learn from it as well. The food bank operated out of a small church and run by two members of the community, Diane and Clarence. As a volunteer, my duties were to help package and organize food into boxes and then bring those boxes out to the cars of the families when they arrived. While none of the work I did was clinical, there were aspects of nursing in the tasks I completed.…

A group of people is defined as any collection of people who consider each other to be a group. People in groups have different characteristics that distinguish them from a random crowd, such as a sense of identity, loyalty or how much the group means to them, having a purpose or sort of reason as why to be in the group, and finally a source of leadership in the group. An organisation can be considered one large group within itself, however it consists of several sub-groups that have their own specific ways or purpose. In St. Mary’s Press Bible there was a reading on Speak Lord, I Am Listening. From this reading it explains that understanding what God is saying in different events can be challenging. It says we should pay attention to how different experiences make us feel. If we feel hopeful, energized, or a sense of peace then God is calling us to these events. On the other hand if you feel restless, anxious, or drained it is not our calling.…

During the summer of 2014, I had the opportunity to serve others in Birmingham, Alabama. One night of my trip was spent running a community meal for the homeless and less fortunate in that area. A meal was prepared by a group of volunteers, and it was my job to help serve the food and provide a friendly face for the visitors. Volunteers, including myself, were pulled into conversations with a few of the poverty stricken individuals. I learned about several of their families and home lives.…
