Personal Narrative: My Mother's Influence On My Life

Indicate a person who has had a significant influence on you, and describe that influence.

As weird as it may sound my mother has had the most influence on me. I know that many people who find their mothers to be influential would be females, but i tend to have a different approach on this. Her hard work and determination to give me and my brother a better life than what she had, truly is influential to me. My mother is a single parent of two boys, me and my older brother. Although my father is still around from time to time, he has never financially supported me or my brother throughout our lives. Whenever he would come home from work, he would just take a shower and walk out the door within 30minutes to spend all that hes made that day. I can't even remember ever having a actual conversation with him. It's as if he was non existent and his only role in my life was to give me a life.

Now that I'm old enough to realize how much my mother has done for me and my brother she's someone i truly look up to. Her hard work throughout the years to support us, putting up with the fights me and my brother would have, and taking care of us as a single parent. It has always boggled my mind how she was able to

Reasons such as how she would always be on my brothers side just because hes older than I. How she would always find the littlest things to complain to me about such as not placing my shoes correctly. Now that I'm older now I've learned how how i shouldn't talk back to my mom and how i should listen to her because of all she has done for me. I didn't realize how much she has provided for me and my brother until the summer of my Junior year, when i had the experience of working for the first time. Each week i would work for about 35-40 hours during the summer, which allowed me to make more than enough to support myself and not having the need to depend on my mother as much as i used

I was born and raised in Brownsville, Texas; my environment shaped me to become someone responsible, an over achiever, and a determined young man. The people who had the biggest impact on me is the woman who gave me life, my father, and my community. My mother was already there for me even before I stared walking, she was there to comfort me when I fell on my knees. She was my first teacher, the one who taught me morals and set up my standards; whenever we had a family party and all of our thirty members were together, she will make me introduce and address myself to every single one and if ever forgot to say hi to someone she will just give me a look to make realize my mistake, and I will immediately go on to that person and say sorry for…

When I first learned of this assignment my first thought was to interview my mom. She is the one person in my life I am closest to. Since we are only twenty three years apart, I thought it would be best to focus on her life up to the point where she decided to have kids. Though I knew most of what she told me it was still nice to just sit and talk about her life experiences. My mother was born to older parents and was the youngest of three children.…

Mom was small, a slight 110 pounds but through my eyes, she was large, even after my height surpassed hers. To this day, she would argue that she weighed only 100. Her strong presence claimed her space, and anyone else's that she cared to. Being right was of utmost importance to her, and she made sure always to have the last word. Overbearing, and overprotective of me, her only child, she usually controlled every situation, regardless of how trivial.…

She has never been one for positive reinforcement, and always reprimands me for something. If it’s not my grades, it’s cleaning my room or not volunteering enough. On top of all of the things she expects me to constantly excel at, she’ll tell me I’m not getting enough sleep. This can be extremely frustrating when I am working hard, but my mom doesn’t seem to recognize it. In light of it all, she often gives me goals that she doesn’t even believe I will achieve!…

I was born in San Francisco to a single mother, and I have never known anything different. My mother provided an incredible life for me, for which I am eternally grateful. At the age of eleven my mother decided it would be financially best to relocate to Casper, Wyoming, where she would have the help of her family to raise me. Although the move was extremely difficult for both of seeing that we created friendships and bonds with people that we would no longer see as often, my mother has never made a decision she didn’t think was best for both of us. My mother always puts my well-being first which has given me my love of helping others.…

    A. Autobiographical Statement My mother was the first and only person in her family to graduate from college, which has always been an inspiration to me. She was an abused wife on food stamps, raising two children on her own while my father was incarcerated. I will always remember when she told me that life was like a lotus flower; we may start by growing in the mud but each day we can choose to bloom above the water into a beautiful flower. It was then that I understood my childhood was not my choice, but how I choose to live the rest of my life was. My mother never wavered in her faith that if I wanted to do something in my life the only thing that could hold me back was myself.…

I hate Christmas because nothing is phenomenal. I am not being facetious. I assume that Santa was busy and remiss when he forgot to give me a Christmas gift. Every time I saw other children play with their new toys by looking through the translucent window, I consternated about Christmas, and felt disconsolate. It is a paradox that a rich country should be so many poor people.…

My mother has impacted me in different aspects but not as much as her dedication. To help support my uncles and herself to give them what they needed for school and for herself. She dedicated herself to work to maintain her family together and for them to care for each other. What I have learned to admire from this is that you have to keep persisting to keep everything going in our families together, and for me to do the same thing. For me to keep going on…

The reason I am Who I am: As a young child I had very many influences in my life. I had many learning, and educational experiences before I even started school. The influences I have had throughout my life have brought me to wanting to pursue my life in the career path of nursing. Also I have been exposed to many other things, but one thing that has stuck as an interest to me since I was four years old was cheerleading, and I would consider myself more knowledgeable in that subject than most. All of these things wouldn’t be in my life if it had not been for my sponsors of literacy that I have had throughout my life.…

My mother and I did not share a typical mother/daughter relationship. There was a time when we would not even speak and years would pass before I would even see her again. However, I would always see her when I looked into the mirror, since I looked just like her. I would hear her laugh because our laughs were identical, and small details we shared would remind me of the relationship I was missing, the relationship I felt everyone took advantage of. During my senior year all hope of a possible reconciliation would be lost.…

I decided to interview my mom for this paper because she has had a significant role in my upbringing and she means a lot to me. Since my mom and I are very close, like best friend status, I already knew a lot about her which made the interviewing process much easier. My mom and I share a lot of the same views on many issues but have differing views on a few, especially under the diversity category. I live at home with my mom and father and so I see my mom everyday which is one reason why our viewpoints are similar, so we can both avoid cognitive dissonance and it makes the day to day living more manageable.…
